  1. Your not the only person to say that, however, I failed on it last week unfortunately
  2. Morning, Following on from another thread, is there anyone who has time to take a look at the instructions for this switch I purchased for my IVA? https://www.carbuildersolutions.com/de/rear-fog-light-controller-for-new-iva-rules-for-momentary-switch The instructions look simple but I am really pushed for time and am planning on fitting the box over the weekend, test on Monday I am sure it will be simple but I don’t want to be struggling last minute. Does anyone know which wires should be taken from where? Also where should the box be located? As I say it looks simple and I am sure I will be fine but if someone recently fitted one and has a few words of wisdom to save me some time that would be awesome. thanks, Dan
  3. That’ll be why then thanks, I think there are 5w.
  4. Apologies if this is a dumb question. IVA tick sheet in progress and one thing the guy picked up on was a dim reverse light. He asked me what bulb I am using which makes me think is there a higher wattage bulb required? From memory I purchased a pack of Halfords Cheeto bulbs for the fog and I think side lights and fitted the same bulb to the reverse. Hoping it’s a simple mistake and I need to fit a different bulb. Thanks, Dan
  5. Garage sealed and squatters evicted! Two little field mice, had made a nice little nest in the corner of the garage On their way never to return...
  6. Unfortunately I have a 2 year old Collie that doesn’t get on with cats. Think I’m going take a trip to screwfix and spend some needed build time on sealing the garage door
  7. Not sure which section this belongs in, does anyone have any strategies for getting rid of mice? I have a tight deadline for my second IVA attempt and have discovered a mouse has been behind my AUX panel! Luckily no major damage but he’s blatantly had a nibble on some trim and some of the wiring. The plan is to pull everything out of the garage, clean up and place some humane traps about. Any ticks to keep the critters off? Trying not to get too frustrated - hopefully no major damage. Thanks, Dan
  8. Dragging this one up again. At IVA yesterday my speedo worked, to 30mph and then either stopped or examiner said it went backwards (!!). I haven’t yet looked but considering it flat out stopped or went backward I am assuming it isn’t configuration. Any thoughts, bad earth or interference? I was thinking it could be sensor distance from the bolt heads. thanks (again!) Dan
  9. Hmmm, interesting. I’ll mention it to examiner - to be honest he was really good and really fair.
  10. Thanks both, I had read so many confusing posts on this I came to the conclusion it didn’t apply but alas I failed on it. Managed to get the retest booked for the 13th and with it being so close I will probably opt for the magic box (even though it goes against my “must understand how stuff works” policy ). Thanks, Dan
  11. Hi, One thing I failed on for my IVA yesterday was: RS4: The rear fog lamp(s) must only illuminate when dipped beam, main beam or front fog lamps are lit Additional Information: REAR FOG LIGHT OPERATION INCORRECT, REAR FOG LIGHTILLUMINATES AFTER ALL LIGHTS HAVE BEEN SWITCHED OFF AND SWITCHED BACK ON. I am using GBS stock chassis loom, what’s the easiest way to get this resolved? Tester mentioned a box I could buy, I see an example on car builder solutions: https://www.carbuildersolutions.com/uk/rear-fog-light-controller-for-new-iva-rules-for-momentary-switch Looks like a simple neat solution? Has anyone else faced the same problem? Thanks
  12. Christ I bet that was stressful!
  13. Thanks for the help. The worst part was it only started as I was pulling into the test centre - good first impression!
  14. Ha ha this afternoons job is to book the retest I’m so pleased though. The drive there was very nerve racking but back was great. Two examiners there were really nice guys, had a lot of time for questions and explained everything to me.
  15. Thanks guys all sorted - once it was up on ramps having it’s inspection I could see the nuts had worked loose and the cable was no long where it should be. Tightened up and all’s good. What a journey there and back, journey back was better as I wasn’t as nervous. It failed IVA on a list of things all clips, cables and some general recommendations. All the major stuff passed especially emissions and sound
  16. It grinds a little yes if I really try. Just passed emissions test (great!) but now engine is red hot and I can’t get it into any gear whilst engine running. should I try tightening the cable a tad?
  17. Hi, when cold gear selection is fine, when warm it’s really hard to get into gear when stationary say into 1st. if I turn engine off I can get into gear fine. I’m at my IVA and will need to drive car home, I have an MT75 box with clutch cable. Should I tighten it losen the cable?
  18. Spoke to ETB and they were great, they gave me 12870 which is not a million miles from your number - assuming mines more specific to ratio and tyre size. More importantly it’s massively different to the current setting which explains it being out. Thanks again everyone.
  19. Evening, IVA on Thursday - all done bar one thing the ETB speedo is way out. It registers far too high. I’ve set it to pulses and tried to calculate the number but clearly way off the mark. I will call ETB tomorrow but if someone is able to calculate the number of pulses required that would be awesome (and aid my sleep!). Wheel sizes are 195/50/15 and diff ratio is 3.62 and it’s the diff bolt sensor. Thanks and some eye candy...it needs a good wash...
  20. thanks all. GBS mailed me the power and emission maps yesterday, have loaded the power map and now car wont idle without giving it some throttle. I need to do more reading, was hoping for "plug and play" before IVA and get an expert to tune afterwards on RR.
  21. Thanks everyone - lots of replies in a short time, food for thought. I setup insurance yesterday via chassis number and they said IVA and MOT are OK. It does seem a grey area for MOT; I have confidence in the build but extra pair of eyes (especially trained ones!) sounds good to me. Ill mull it over whilst tinkering on car this sunny weekend

    Pre IVA MOT

Morning, IVA due in 2 weeks and I am planning on driving to test centre, 80 miles away. I am thinking of booking a pre test MOT to check emissions, wheel alignment, breaks etc. There seem to be mixed opinions but I was wondering are there any serious disadvantages to getting an MOT before the IVA? Additional cost aside and the fact I may need to get an MOT in the first 3 years I like the thought of a trained eye checking my work before IVA. Anyone else done this? thanks, Dan
  23. I should really search before I ask questions, it looks like this has been asked before ( I will get in touch with GBS and ask for the eco and power maps as I bought the ECU from them + plenum.
  24. Hey guys, exciting times - paperwork for IVA is in and I have a small list of things left to do. I have a question regarding ECU setup. I have fitted IACV and Lambda sensor, both of which will need setting up on my Emerald K6 and I am fairly confident I can get them setup based on a small bit of research I have done, but it got me thinking. For the IVA I am planning on driving to the test centre but I only have the stock ECU map that came loaded, it works fine as in the engine runs without any obvious issues, but the test centre is some 80 miles away. I am considering taking the car to a local tuner and asking them to set it up for me, any immediate pitfalls you can think of? Sound like a good idea? Thanks! Dan
