  1. Did a post about it in "mechanics" section on 25th march last year called " ground clearance...solved" It has some photos of the bracket which I made out of steel u section that dropped into the existing u channel where the mounting points are. My fabrication skills are limited so it doesn't look pretty but it is very solid.
  2. I'll try and take one later.
  3. I had the same issue with my S7 with inboard coilovers. I wanted as much clearance as I could get so made a bracket to raise the lower mounting points by about 1 ". Worked for me.
  4. It's only a guess but probably about 3"? I have about 4.5 inches clearance under the sump with coilovers wound right up which it enough for the bumpy Sussex roads. I think my springs were 9.5 inches from memory.
  5. I'm afraid I can't remember the length. I'm built for comfort these days so the 120 lb suit me. I think a lot of people use 130.
  6. Hi. That was a few years ago now. I got lucky and got some second hand ones. I think they were Avo ones? I'm afraid I can't remember the exact specs but I know the springs were 120 lb. So much better than the original over stiff ones. I seem to remember many people recommending Dampatek as a good source. Good luck.
  7. Update..I have heard back from the organisation and they say they are in consultation with the venues and local authorities and will only go ahead with the event if it is confirmed that it can be held legally according to the Covid regs. I won't hold my breath!
  8. Thanks Alan. That's good to know.
  9. Sun in June 2 years running?? That's optimistic!
  10. I'm really hoping to persuade my wife to navigate as my car mad son will be mid uni exams. Otherwise I will just have to trust that the car in front knows the route! This will be my first event if I end up going . I have contacted the organisation and requested more info on the Covid regulations and will update when I hear anything.
  11. Hi Alan, I have to admit I was surprised to see it was on and before the 21st June. My car hasn't left the drive for a few months so my heart did rule my head and I went for it expecting slots to go very quickly. I will be treating it as a drive out and will not for example be stopping at the lunch venue. I do take your point and may well reconsider. I'm sure they will be announcing further rules closer to the time. There is at least a refund if they have to cancel due to Covid. They may well be told to do so. Maybe I shouldn't have mentioned it at all. I certainly don't want to encourage any rule breaking! David
  12. Hi. I've just booked my slot for the London to Brighton Kit, Replica and Sports car run. Leaving from Brooklands Museum this year. Anyone else going? David
  13. Search on this site under "cortina" showed a few references to the same question about replacing the front suspension. It seems the Locust kit cars have a cortina setup which some people have replaced with tubular wishbones. Google "Locust wishbone suspension". First result gives details of the conversation. Hope that helps.
  14. Looks like a lovely car. Don't get too hung up on upgrades yet. Make sure you enjoy it and get to know it. There are seats out there that fit. I got lucky and found a comfy pair secondhand for £30 . No idea what make. Have fun.
  15. Thanks for that. I think it confirms that mine is advancing way too quickly. When I'm feeling brave I'm going to have a look at the springs.
  16. Hi. I think there is no universal answer. Every car is put together slightly differently. Mine which is probably similar to yours has 3 bolts underneath and 3 on each side. It should be a pretty easy operation however it's fixed. Take the mesh off the front and you should be able to see the method. Good luck
  17. I think it's a growing trend. AXA have done the same for me for the last few years. Good psychology. It stops us ringing round every year so they keep people. I know I could still ring round but the premium is pretty small anyway.
  18. Hi. I have one of these. Had lasted about 3 years with no problems. https://www.coveryourcar.co.uk/store/home.php?cat=732 Look for the stormforce for the Robin Hood David
  19. Thanks for that. I had found another article by him but this one is more detailed. It definitely confirms my curve is far too steep and maxes out too early. Now to decide whether it's worth fiddling.
  20. Hi all. I was a bit bored so decided to map my advance curve. More out of curiosity than trying to sort any issues as the car goes pretty well for a 1.6 I think. Anyway, vacuum removed, my idle advance is 9 degs. Above that it tends to pink. 1500 revs already at 25 degs. Gets to 28 by 3500 then no change at higher revs. Does this sound too steep or am I being fussy? I think max should be more like 34 degs? Maybe some fun with springs coming up. Any thoughts? David
  21. I think I've seen this elsewhere for sale and same question was asked. Sounds incorrectly registered. I'd be very suspicious.
  22. Ok. Sorry, I misunderstood. Part of the fun is the research into all the options. Have fun.
  23. If it's purely a track car then you will have more choice at that budget. Tricky time during lockdown to look at them though. Out of interest this had just come up on the strictly kitcars Facebook page which may give you an idea of what you can get. I'm not saying it's any good but it comes with a trailer as well which you will need. Ps..I hope I'm not breaking any rules by posting this link. Please remove if I am.
  24. https://nw.rhocar.org/identification.htm Have a look at this useful link. I can't quite identify from your pics.
