  1. It's their "Denso" type alternator....... No obvious play or knocking.... Although I have to say that if I stick the old big screwdriver against my ear and on the case it sounds "rumbly".... However, it's done less than 50 miles since fitting.... I am running a basic set up in terms of draw, I will check the output and report back
  2. Black top Zetec fitted with GBS lightweight 30 amp alternator set up.....after 5 minutes running you could fry bacon on the alternator casing Is this normal?
  3. Record and watch over The Christmas Holidays me thinks
  4. Merry Christmas...... everyone

    Just An Update

Can I take this opportunity to wish you a speedy recovery and all the very best for the future
  6. £318 delivered door to door with anyvan....fully insured blah blah blah..... What about a three day drive with stop overs.....hotels £150 ish plus fuel
  7. Thanks every one ..specially Richard for taking the time to dig out the photograph
  8. That was to be my next question....is it easier to unbolt the fuel rail. Although on the set up on Gladys I can't see any bolt heads
  9. I look to yourr good selves for assistance again. Zetec black top 2 litre Two piccies attached;- Looking at the offside of the unit Pic 1 shows the air filter on the left, Fuel rail? running from the centre of the frame off to the left beyond the filter. Pic 2looking down on the fuel rail I hope I have got the terminology correct, I grew up with Carb based fuel system and at 67 this is my first brush with fuel injection. My question is this.....The thing on the end of the fuel rail that the fuel inlet hose attaches to that looks somewhat like a top hat. What is it's purpose and can I simply remove it by undoing the two bolts on the end of the fuel rail without having any critical parts fall out on the floor/ into my hand. I need to access the bolt that can be seen just behind the top hat thing in order to fit new top alternator bracket Your assistance, as always ,will be greatly appreciated.

    Hi Folks

    Very nice 2b.....enjoy
  11. Car Builder Solutions sell complete master cylinder kits or just the master cylinders of various bores....reasonably priced...worth a look?
  12. Thanks for your comments and advice chaps......having hunted the interwebbyblobbything .... £63 a side seems to be the average for the Sierra....can't put a price on safety... I will have to see how many pennies I have in my retirement Jam jar... Priority's you see......looks like my new steering wheel just turned into a bid on "evil bay" for someone's cast off....That's after ...alternator plus plus plus. Still I would rather be alive to admire my current steering device than the alternative. IE parked in the back of a white van man's ride. Thank's once again
  13. First place I did Richard, after googling it......Sierra 1985.....1.6..not ABS....not wear indicator......Do not sell on the website....Message states speak to one our salespersons, look you....Do I smell an alternative being offered....Will ring tomorrow
  14. Any suggestions ref where to buy......Great believer in you get what you pay for......... I still blinked at £63 a side from burton power....
  15. I haven't tried anything yet Richard......Any suggestions would be welcome
  16. Well I'm awake at 3;10...after 2;45 hrs of sleep...strange things pop in and out of your head. There are a plethora of posts on here about wooden brake pedal syndrome....and more than a few solutions offered by those with more cranial capacity then I. However, it behoves me,( in the thirst for knowledge), to ask the obligatory silly question. I need to attack my bleeding awful brakes and am fairly sure at some point I will have to change the master cylinder. I am currently unable to view this item as it's hidden behind a mass of aluminium. if it's an 85 sierra MC are the threads for the pipes metric. If I have to swap and utilise a Ford Ka MC then I assume Ford will have gone Metric my the mid 90's.... sorry, I'm used to working on VW Beetles...self explanatory As usual thanks for any offers of advice
  17. New belt on the way.....precaution............Th3 alternator is pretty damned new by the look of it....However, I dropped the old steel rule across the crank pulley and the alternator pulley is "squew wiff" as we say in Gods country.... It doesn't sound like belt squeal....stuck a screw driver on the alternator and "listened" via the handle.....sounds a bit rumbly to me.... Checked my invoice folder.... the Alternator was fitted just before I picked her up......that means it's done no more the a 3 hours running.... Need to get the drive way finished so I can get Gladys into her kennel....Then I'll play
  18. I'd just like to say a thank you to "Longboarder". I re-plumbed Gladys following the diagram you were kind enough to post in this topic. Now that I am able to drive again, "She who must be obeyed" and myself, disappeared off down the A361in search of adventure. The temperature gauge never went above 90 throughout the run. Her Ladyship, who is not given to compliments easily, remarked on it. Thanks to everyone else who chucked in their ten penneth. Now all I have to do is sort out a squealing alternator.......it never ends does it....then again that's exactly why we bought one
  19. Not being a stranger to "over winter fuel syndrome", and not having drained the tank prior to pulling Gladys to bits over the winter. My son suggested I fired her up after we had completed the tasks we had set ourselves. Neither of us thought she would fire on fuel that had been in the system for six months. Tapped the throttle, turned the key... She burbled into life and sat there ticking over....much to my astonishment. My sons only comment.....I'm well impressed Just goes to show...Life is just a bucket of peanuts...or whatever Gump said It would be sensible to empty the tank, replace the in line filter if you have one and clean the carb..... Best of luck
  20. This may be of no help whatso ever...but it's worth a cheeky punt i have a file of all the receipts, parts lists, jobs to do etc..... these were handed to me in a cardboard box...me being me they are now filed neatly... There is a 2015 invoice for making and fitting a black everflex cover....which is I beleive the material from which my roof is constructed.....£144 Might be worth the price of a call PJM Motors...Market Drayton...phone 01630 652873
  21. Agree with the "add it on fuel" suggestion...However..I have always "sorned" my seasonal vehicles, but as retirement now looms I may decide that a run in the winter sun appeals...In which case consider this a winge on £245 excise duty
  22. Insurance is always a contentious issue and tends to provoke some fairly polarised opinions......which is exactly why I raised it. Agreed value...opinions please and as forthright as you like.... Currently have it.....wondering if it's worth keeping
  23. Sincere apologies Gentleman Comes of posting after a long day at rehab. Should not have had the "not" before the "v belt". Thanks for the links and info....... Good news is "Gladys" passed her MOT this morning... Once again...thank you all
  24. This damned car is driving me to distraction.... Can anyone give me a nudge in the direction of anyone who can supply a fan belt, (not V grooved), for a black top zetec with the alternator mounted on the offside.....it's a denso alternator which I bought from kit spares...they only seem to sell the belt as part of their alternator kit. As usual any help would be really appreciated
