    Robin hood wheels

I'm selling my set of robin hood array wheels as i no longer have my project. They are on ebay but open to offer on here if anyone is interested. http://ebay.us/nHPWas?cmpnId=5338273189

    ECU dropping out.

Problem solved. I used the wrong second position wire. The black/ white wire I used goes dead on cranking the blue wire that for some reason I'd taped up a few months back was wire I actually needed. Obvious when you have a wiring diagram that's correct an not relying on multimeter. Now to get it firing out the exhaust not the inlet.

    ECU dropping out.

I'm using Mazda mx5 column with 3 positions. Although I must admit that I haven't checked that position 3 is staying both live and cranking. What your saying blue makes sense. The loom has a optional wire for starter button. Might temporarily wire in a button on that see if it works.

    ECU dropping out.

Ignore alternator stuff it still wants changing but nothing to do with my start issues. I've worked out what all my relays are an there is an ECU one. On cranking its losing all voltage on both sides. Almost as if the starter Is drawing all the power. I'm confused might be a call to gbs on Tuesday.

    ECU dropping out.

Could it be due to not having the alternator connected as the Mazda alternator requires the Mazda ECU for regulating voltage or something like that. So looking at alternatives together round this. According to the little wiring information I have for the loom. I have an ECU ignition relay no idea which one it is but if this hasn't got power might be my issue.

    ECU dropping out.

ECU is on position 2. It only powers up when on second click. That's what I thought I had done initially so pulled the column connections apart just to check.
  7. I've bought the gbs chassis loom engine loom and emerald ECU. Everything plugs together as it should only thing I've had to do is connect the Mazda column switches to the loom. My problem is when the key is turned to position 3(start) the power to the ECU drops out but the car is still cranking over. I've checked the battery voltage when cranking. My thinking is that there might be a relay for the ECU that's losing power when I turn the key. I dobt have a fuse or relay diagram from gbs so I'm not sure what is what. The ECU powers up fine an does everything it should until start up. Any suggestions? Thanks.
  8. which way does the clutch cable pull from? could it be pulled up ie cable comes in from under the car. thinking it may be good for one of my other projects.

    Making A Start

I'm going down the mx5 route with mine. Think mine is a sub k with macpherson struts. However im keeping ford running gear. i've got the 1.8vvt engine + box provisionally mounted so would be good to see how you get on with it.

    Mx5 Engine And Box

im fitting an mx5 1.8vvt and box into my 2b/4- sub k (not quite sure on model) im keeping the sierra diff to save modding the rear suspension. i've basically bought the entire mx5 removed all engine and box components, full loom, fuel tank, steering column, battery, switches etc and sold the rest im pretty much even on it now. did only buy the mx5 for 350 though.

    Tyre Profiles

not sure if they are wolfrace or array, im going off what the seller has told me. they do have yellow robin hood wheel centers though. sounds like 195/50's are the size to go with. thanks for your responses.
  18. i'm picking up a set of 15x6.5jj alloys on sunday, original 5 spoke hood wheels by wolfrace. I will be looking at tyres once i have them. What tyre profiles are people using? also brands to stay away from on these cars.

    Hybrid Sub K

Well I've liberated the engine and box from the donor mx5 and it's now sat in then hood chassis. It's amazing how much further along it looks with an engine in rather than just a rolling chassis. Now to fab some mounts up and make it permanent.

    Hybrid Sub K

thanks longboarder, looks like I may now have raise a few more pennies being able to sell diff and rear suspension from the mx5 then and leave what's in there alone. think I have most of the main items for the build, its then mainly body work that that I need to figure out such as the cockpit foot well panelling I think its pretty much self explanatory. although if anyone has a measurement for how far back their pedal box is from a common point on the chassis that would be great give me a starting point for fitting mine.

    Hybrid Sub K

Thanks bob. There is no tags on it. Will give the outputs a turn. Will still strip it anyway fit new bearings etc.

    Hybrid Sub K

I'm currently weighing up the options. The ford diff is unknown, I will be having to strip it out and find its ratio plus overhaul it. The Mazda diff to fit yes will be alot more work but it would mean i have an lsd and rear disc set up off the Mazda if I use the rear subframe and suspension. Decisions decisions.

    Hybrid Sub K

New to building robin hood type kit cars as I've been building minis for the last 16 years. however I've always wanted a Westfield type kit so back in January when things in life changed an late night on eBay I became the owner of a robin hood rolling chassis. After sending a couple of photos to GBS they confirmed that it was a sub k version. can I find any information on them....nope anyway. after picking it up about 30 min's with battery drill the shabby steel panels were removed an shoved out the way. initially I was going ford route as I have a sierra diff and suspension fitted to the rear and front hubs. after looking up various engine options I have settled on Mazda mx5 engine. couple of weeks back I bought an mot failure of an mx5. so the plan is to put the 1.8vvt engine gear box and now the rear sub frame diff and suspension in, removing the ford rear running gear. Has anyone else fitted a Mazda to the older chassis? is there anything I should be looking out for? wiring, steering column, seats, fuel tank etc have all been donated by the mx5 too I know fitting the rear diff isn't going to be easy as I will either end up with mazda - ford shafts or I will be virtually cutting the rear end out and fitting the mx5 rear subframe and suspension. I will upload some pics once I've taken them off my phone.
