  1. IanS very insightful as always, I too have the same issues as well as reading full when empty and empty when full ! You mention "dampened gauge" I have done some research after reading this as it was a new term to me and it is becoming apparent that putting a capacitor in the wire from sender to gauge makes it less reactive meaning fuel sloshing is less noticeable on the gauge reading, but this opens up even more queries ! 1) what capacitor is right ? is there a simple wiring diagram/method ? any ideas on gauge reading in reverse I presume 2 wires the wrong way round on back of gauge but which 2 ?
  2. Dodgy plug to the motor bit of wiggling came back again a big relief !
  3. Need some help getting to the end of my tether ! Washer jets were not working no power to pump. So created a simple ignition feed to pump via push button switch on dash and created an earth for pump. Tried and works perfect. But now the wipers don’t work !!! They were working while I had the pump out and was sorting this but now dead completely. Are the 2 connected could something I’ve done be the cause or is this just plain bad luck ? I’ve checked all fuses all ok so now I’m left scratching my head ! Where do I go next to try and sort this ?
  4. Need some new wipers the ones on are a chrome thing looks like a full arm ? are these off any particular car ? any one got any part numbers or links etc .. ? Car is a Series 3 Robin Hood
  5. Just to close this one off the issue was insufficient power to the pump I found a fuel pump relay wiring harness on E bay ordered and installed works perfect now many thanks for everyone's help and advise greatly appreciated as always !
  6. I replaced mine on my Series 3 with Pinto recently with the ones Phil has posted fitted no problem at all
  7. Firstly thanks to Nigel for the explanation I think I am getting my simple brain around the logic now, thanks to Phil for the offer as well I do work in the garage industry (not on the spanners) but plenty of access to parts. @richyb66 has offered to come and sort in a couple of weeks but after all the help and some further research I am now feeling quite confident I will attempt to wire myself safe albeit a simpler circuit to Nigel's. safe in the knowledge Rich is not too far away ! Fingers crossed
  8. Thanks Nigel do you remember that bit when I said electrical was my weakness ! Your in depth description and drawing has just terrified me. I have not even considered a relay ? My plan is ignition live through inertia switch and then straight to pump. Do I need a relay ? What is the function. ? Is it likely there is one unused in fuse box? Really looking forward to catching up with all of you this fuel pump is my final hurdle bonnet is coming back from Bodyshop next week. Then it is time to drive !
  9. Hi Foz in part you are correct one end is on the top of the bobbin therefore touching the body of the pump the other end sits on bottom of bobbin touching the boot floor that I cleaned with a flap wheel before hand to ensure a good connection. I’m as confident in the earth as I can be
  10. Yes I’ve got one of those to fit in although I am concerned about it triggering every time I go over a bump or hit a pot hole it’s a very stiff ride ?
  11. So I have finally got somewhere ! I took a new power supply straight from battery to pump and it ran way faster and pumped fuel immediately. The power supply I was using was from under the dash coming out of loom so I need to create a new feed to the pump and all should be good
  12. Does it need priming to get it sucking ?
  13. Put 5 gallon in tank pump running inline filter in place still not picking any fuel up IMG_7234.mov
  14. Thanks Ian pump is right way round I dipped the tank with a piece of tube about 2 inch of fuel in tank I will go and get 5 gallon to be 100% fuel line is as was for old pump so should be clear but again will check, no PTFE tape used anywhere. Should be something simple mainly wanted to check pump was suitable and the turns on fuel line where not causing the issue
  15. I have just swooped the mechanical pump for a facet electric pump. All wires in pump runs when ignition on but is not getting fuel to the carb ? Any ideas I thought this pump would be easily strong enough? I have took fuel hose off under bonnet before regulator and it is bone dry ?
  16. The old footwell carpets were looking very tired so I took them out and went to my local carpet store, asking if they could make new ones they said no problem chose an off cut of dark carpet paid £80 and hoped they would turn out ok, collected today and absolutely spot on ! Chuffed to bits
  17. My work car is a Jaguar I pace but I got bored of saving the planet so weekends I burn some dinosaurs!
  18. And post of the year 2024 goes to AndI
  19. I’m up for that if the weather is good
  20. Finished under the bonnet, the next stop is interior carpet, centre console then onto brakes Bonner went away for paint earlier this week IMG_7139.mov
