  1. Picked the car up yesterday from john Sleath. He had trouble with the boost control valve which was not working. He done 2 maps and told me to return once on the road and he do a power map on full boost. I've got a "emissions" map and a low boost map The low boost gives about 160 bhp and runs perfectly Should be looking at 230-250 on full boost Really happy with the results
  2. Thanks for the replays The first place I took the car didn't fill me with confidence even though it's a we'll know place Like I said, I left my lap plugged i.in for a couple of hours no problem I used the he adaptor from emerald They were not a fan of emerald and got the felling they wanted me to change it for one they supply Think I've made the right move
  3. Just booked my super spec in for a first tune with a chap at a place called John Sleath race cars near Doncaster. He seemed really nice and very knowledgable over the phone. This is the second time I tried to have it tuned. The first time I was told by the tuner that there was a problem with the communication with the ecu and charged me £190. Took ecu off and sent back to Emerald who couldn't find anything wrong with it. I also had it on test for about 3 hours with no problem. Anyway I've decided to try John Sleath instead of the original tuner and I just wondered if anyone has had any dealings with him or heard anything about him. I looked on the internet and the few reviews I've found sound really good. He's also listed on the Emerald web site as being a dealer. Jeremy
  4. I think you are correct, but it's been 10'years so far
  5. Hi Alan, I think it's about finished. As normal, work had totally taken over so the car was put on the back burner. Took it to be tuned last week at a local place with a 1000 bhp rolling road ( bit optimistic ) They were having lots of problems with the Emerald losing connection with the laptop. They seem to think it's a problem with the ecu so I'm hoping to look at this tomorrow night after work. Also had to order a new throttle position sensor from eBay. Then it's sva etc
  6. Hi Alan, I have done the same mod a few years ago. Pretty much the same as yours except the mounting area of the reseviour. The only test mine has had in anger has been on a rolling road which is another story. No leaks and easy to keep an eye on the level. Jeremy
  7. Yes, Only tried it for a few hundred yards.
  8. Did this over Christmas. Just cut it near through, bent it and welded 2 small plates on either side. Wasn't sure if the ratchet would work, but seems to be ok. Jez
  9. Last year whilst building my supper spec on the slowest car build known to man, I gave the car a quick test (on private ground) The diff was making a horrible whining noise. I put a topic here on the forum and received a lot of good ideas. Over Christmas I decided to have a good look at the problem. Now I feel so stupid and guilty for wasting everyones time. See photo. Now sounds so sweet. Thanks for your help. Jez
  10. Is Intatrim still trading. I have phoned them lots of times over the last few weeks but can't get anyone to answer. Also email several times.
  11. Wish I'd used a bit of grey matter when you came up to see me You could have taken the shocks as well Replaced mine a few years ago

    Whinning Diff

Ive checked the oil today and the level is good. The oil that I used was EP 80W/90 GL-5 I don't think its a sound proofing problem as I can hear it 50ft away. I know RH told me it was reconditioned, but they also told me it was a limited slip diff. Im starting to doubt both. I jacked up one side of the car and could turn the wheel easily. Im not sure if this is normal for a LSD. Im starting to think that I should replace the diff but there's no guarantee that the next one will be any better. Jez

    Whinning Diff

The car was moving about 20mph The only reason I thought it might be the diff is because when I drove it the noise seemed to be behind me more then next to me

    Whinning Diff

Thanks for all the suggestions. The noise is still there when I'm stood outside the car I will check the oil as it's been so long since I filled it I can't remember what type I used I'm just assuming diff noise It's a general whining noise that seemed to be behind me when driving Jez

    Whinning Diff

After 10 years of building, i've just taken the super spec for a quick run around some work units (Private land). To me the diff sounds like an old London bus. I was told when I bought the kit from Robin Hood that this part was the only used bit but was reconditioned. If it was reconditioned and not just repainted, what could the noise be and can this be easily fixed or is it a case of giving it to a specialist. Jez
  16. Hi Al Good to meet you yesterday I didn't realise the Rover turbo was not popular That explains why I struggle info on the engine Thanks for trying Jez
  17. Hi Al Just replaced the silencer and cat on my very slow build. Never used Yours if you need it What engine is in your car? Jez
  18. Hi Graham Thanks for the advice. Pretty sure all the other pipes are as you described. In the photo, is the waste gate actuator the one on the left of the photo? What you have described, maybe the 2 unidentified pipes should be linked via a boost control valve?
  19. I have a pair of the original headlamps available, chrome, but they look about 7" surplus to requirements. Very cheep. (free)
  20. I have just started my super spec for the first time since I started building it nearly 10 years ago. It is fitted with a Rover T16 2000cc turbo. I suspect that my connections (guessed) which I have made to the turbo are not correct. Does anyone know where the connections should go. The left connection in the photo (I think waste gate) I have taken to the plenum chamber and the right connection in the attached photo goes under the throttle body. Any help would be great. Jez
  21. Alan, I will let you know how I get on. The engine is running really lumpy at tick over at the moment but these are early stages. Steve, I'm pretty sure its a T16, but I have been wrong many times before. Just done a search and Im still sure its a T16 as fitted to the Tomcat etc.
  22. Thanks for the help chaps. Turns out it was a bit of all the above. The throttle was slightly stuck open and I'd not connected the pipe for the MAP sensor correctly so an air leak. Hopefully onwards and upwards now. Thanks again for the help
  23. The engine is actually reving up I haven't actually looked at my Rev counter yet but the laptop connected to the ecu says 4000 From the sound of the engine I would say that's resonavly accurate
  24. I had a good think whilst driving this afternoon and come to the same conclusion I'm just not that confident with all the connections made. Saying that, it did fire up
  25. Just fired up the engine on my Super spec for the first time. Been building of and on for too long now and after a good time at Goodwood recently, decided that a good effort was needed. The engine fired on the second attempt. The problem is, it idles at 4000 rpm. It must be one of the connections I've made. I have installed and Emerald ECU and my engine is a Rover T16 2000cc turbo. Any ideas would be helpful. Thanks Jez
