  1. Hi,

I've fitted a new 88 degree QH thermostat today and noticed a small ball in the spring:

    PIC

Can anyone throw some light on the purpose of the ball? :unknw:

It is not fixed and can roll around between the spring and the wax capsule.

    Cheers,

    Trev

  2. Ideally, Luke, you need to get a receipt (preferable in your name) for the kit. This will make it easier with VOSA form IVA4 as you can state you fitted all the parts to the kit yourself. ;)

Go to the IVA test with the V5C for the Donor and any other paperwork/receipts for parts, it worked for me. I didn't need photographs or any other way to prove amateur build. Some have been asked for photos of harness mounts which are not normally visible so it might be worth taking these.

  3. Hi Guys,

I have a 2.0L Pinto in my 2B but not too sure of the full engine spec. :unknw:

Can anybody help me identify the camshaft from the photos below, please?

    Pic 1

    Pic 2

    Pic 3

The first 2 pics are of the rear end of the shaft.

In Pic 1 the stamp "GA" is quite clear but the rest looks like a right old mix of poorly stamped letters/numbers.

At the top of Pic 2 the stamp looks like "9491" or "949 1"

    Any help gratefully appreciated. :good:

    Cheers,

    Trev

  4. Hi Luke,

Are you wanting the Design Weights for the form IVA1?

    I used the figures:

    Axle 1, 450kgs

    Axle 2, 600kgs

    Gross 1050kgs

    and had no problems.

If you search on this site you'll find the subject has been covered loads of times and you'll find it's the design weights VOSA are after, not the actual weights.

  5. Congratulations Joel,

I had a similar experience with B'ham VOSA: :clapping: good as gold, was the testers name Paul? I too got the feeling he was willing us to pass, very helpful....

....and to be honest DVLA across the road were good too. They had all the documents ready in no time once BUI was complete. I sent all my paperwork fao Leanne Astle, she seems to know her stuff regarding Kit Converted Vehicles :good: . Glad I didn't have to wait in that queue... it's madness in there!

Cheers Bob :drinks: .1000 miles in a month? Wow! :o Have you got limited mileage on your insurance? I declared max 3000 for mine (tax expires September).. maybe I’ll have to review this figure?

I think these are the same ones at CBS:

I also had a screen mounted mirror (off an MGTF) which I reckon helped with IVA :db: Indirect Vision :db: .

  7. Hi guys,

I’d like to say a big

    “THANK YOU”

Thank you all, who have, unknowingly, helped me to get my car on the road…. eventually!

I lose count of the number of snags I hit  but I‘d be on here searching for threads covering the issue, :help: and 99.9% of the time the answer was already here from experienced builders…i.e. you!

    Cheers guys. :drinks:

    My 2B…..a quick history:

2004: a wee incident in New Street B’ham put me in hospital. Some eejit decided to randomly fire a BB gun and my head got in the way :80: . Big hole in my skull but they patched me up :vava: .

2005: criminal injuries compensation gave me a bit of spare cash so I pondered on what to do with some of it. Could’ve just frittered it all away but wanted a silver lining for my cloud.

2006: bought a part built 2B off fleabay. The seller recommended RHOCaR so I took his advice and joined the club. :good: He gave me all his past copies of Boys in Hoods which was useful. At this point in time I’d never heard of internet forums …never mind RHOCaR. What an experience! :shok:

2007 to 2010: un-built then rebuilt! Should’ve just bought a new kit…. easy to say in hindsight! It wasn’t badly built, just not necessarily how I’d have done things. :nea:

Delays in getting the job finished (or excuses, if you like) include uncertainty in employment (watching the pennies), family member health issue (priorities), and the birth of my second daughter (seemed to have my hands full again!)

2011: Ready for IVA. Test arranged for 7th March in Birmingham. Passed……. happy as a pig in you-know-what.

DVLA Built-up Inspection today, on the road by 4pm. Hurray!! :yahoo:

So once again, “THANK YOU”, I look forward to seeing you at future meets and shows. :hi:

  8. Seriously, having just gone through it, I wouldn't worry. It wasn't as bad as I thought it was going to be and I'm a terrible worrier! Finger nails lost about 1mm each last night..lol

My experience was a not what I expected. It was quite relaxed and unstressful. I would have failed on some uncovered edges on the lower panels but the tester allowed me to add some trim while I was there. Worth taking a selection of edge trim just incase. I also had to align the headlamps as I'd only guessed the setting. Apart from those and getting dead close on the noise (98.6dBA) all went well and I came away with IAC and a smile. :yahoo:

  9. How uncanny... I've had my first real drive today too...it really is a great experience once overcoming that initial apprehension!

Was freezing cold at 7.30 this morning though. Must get warmer clothes!

  10. I'm in the same boat brought a half built car! Do i have to say that i was the only builder !! ??

Do you have the original RH receipt for the kit?

If not, it might be worth asking GBSC to "fabricate" a backdated one with your name on......... then, effectively, you had it from new!

  11. Hi All,

Just waiting for my IVA test date. I have been told that because its a Robin Hood/GBS it will need a all day appointment and these are a bit thin at the moment. Just wondered how long it really takes from start to finish on a Zero?

    Starting to panic now :-)

    Cheers,

    Jon

Hey Jon, I really don't understand that stance from VOSA on your test. I took my 2B to Birmingham station today for IVA. Should have started at 8am, but eventually got going at about 20 past. We had a 10 minute break for coffee half way through and it was all over by 10:30ish. I can't see why they would need a full day unless they are using it to train a newbie tester?
