    Longer Wheel Studs

In the past i have taken the hubs off and had a big vice or the use of a blacksmiths block with lots of nice holes in it , the biggest problem with doing them in situ is having something solid enough to hit against so as not to damage the hub flange , also not forgetting the shock to bearings etc but like all these jobs we tend to do what we see fit at the time and what we have on hand to use plus get away with !! Sorry i dont know spline dia . Mike ---off back in the garage welding , only came in for a beer .

    Electric Fan

The fan power lead may well have been disconnected because someone was working in the area of the fan and wanted to play safe just incase it came on & forgot to put it back when finished , i have almost been caught out this way with a fan coming on after i had stopped the engine . Mike

    Longer Wheel Studs

You could soak them with plusgas or parrafin before you start to bash em out , a good solid vice or piece of plate with a hole in the right side for the stud to fall through , one good hit with a b-big lump hammer , a deep socket may even do , as with all these jobs it all depends on what comes to hand first ! After you have fitted them keep checking them for a while until you are certain they are fully home after you have driven a few miles or so . Best o luck . Mike
  8. I have a twist lock fitted but its never on for long , one pump on the go go pedal should suffice but its a long time since i did that on my new Lotus 7 S4 1970 infact , you may be able to see the choke cable carb fitting on one of the pics in my garage if not i could take one for you in the morrow if it would help . Headgasket And Cambelt

A very good point Scottie that is often taken for granted by those of us who have done his many times , as the head bolt tightening sequence is as important if not more so than what follows after , also new head bolts wouldnt go amiss either , plus a head flatness check to save further problems in ths area . Anything to prevent it happening again and so leaving it to be driven and enjoyed . Mike

    Poorly Pinto

Syphon fuel out of your tank , you could remove sender unit and check for crap also you may well have a coarse filter on the pickup pipe , if it looks not too bad then carry on with the inline filters until you know its ok , Mike

  20. Hi Allan , Mine was built using 1983 Sierra parts in 1996/7 reg as Robin Hood and with no repeaters until i fitted them last year , it had passed all its previous MOT's so i dont see why yours should not pass this year as stated above by Gary -MOT inspectors discretion !! . Plus they can be fitted to cycle wings as the wheels have to be facing straight ahead for the purpose of the test according to VOSA , special dispension granted for Lotus 7 type Vehicles as quoted IM 9.1 Lighting/Signaling 26/08/05 . Mike

    Poorly Pinto

Also as Craig mentioned as this caught me out when i fitted a new Stainless cap , only got half a mile before engine mountings took a beating go go no go go , had to drill cap to vent it . An electric pump will soon let you know as mine sounds like a Pigmy with chipping hammer under the bonnet when out of fuel . Mike

    Poorly Pinto

This may sound daft but how much fuel did you have in your tank and how far is the fuel sender pickup from the bottom your tank ? Mike
  23. On my drums i use Pot Black engine barrel paint that i do my bike barrels with as it thrives on heat , straight on to the bare well cleaned metal , i have found in the past that thick coats of paint on back plates can cause problems if water manages to get underneath it as you may well find with time it starts disintergrating from under the paint if you dont keep an eye on it . Headgasket And Cambelt

Align no 1 cylinder to TDC marks on crankshaft pulley to pointer on front oil seal housing and the camshaft sprocket alignment marks ( pointer on the sprocket to the popped mark on the cylinder head) , also note rotor arm position . Just make a note of everything that way it saves hair loss later . All before you take the cam belt off too . Mike
