    Oh No!

    Hi Paul can see you are on line! Read your post and have been digging my 'filing' system and have found the photocopy of the SVA approval document -I didn't trust DVLA at the time in case it got lost before I got my V5!?!? Anyway many apologies I was obviously wrong when I said I'd given it to you with the rest of the paperwork. I'll post a copy on to you tomorrow. Interestingly / usefully(?) it states "having been examined under Section 58 of the Road Traffic Act 1988, it is hereby certified that on the date of the examination this vehicle complied witrh the relevant requirements prescribed under Section 54 of the Road Traffic Act 1988."     Oh No!

    Firstly Paul sorry you are having continued grief but great story on local news - how is celebrity life!?! In answer to the question "Mat-d-Rat" ... I owned the car before Paul. The donor Sierra was on a different number plate (C24 AWD) not the one issued to the RH (C905 OTW). DVLA did have to have two goes at getting the V5 log book right at the time when I registered the RH - originally it was returned as a Sierra again and I had to go back through the DVLA office to get it corrected - the documents all record the car as it should be. Bumbling incompetence and farce spring to mind.

I've also asked if he would complete the thread with the happy ending when his innocence is acknowledged!!! Once again many thanks all, as ever the source of wisdom to solve any problem even vaguely linked to a RH!

  6. I've had a query back from the gentleman who bought my kitcar 6 months ago who has had a 'spot of bother' with the local constabulary. He was stopped for speeding (fair cop) but was then told the vehicle had no MOT. He explained SVA'd within year etc. but they still say it needs to have an MOT and that SVA does not cover this? My understanding (and responses I got when I double checked on here a year ago) was that the test covered that first year period - otherwise why do they issue a tax disc???? So to the help ... has anyone got or know where to find substantive evidence they can use to support not having an MOT post SVA? It's not really my problem but I feel somewhat bad about his predicament and if I can help him out would like to. The absolute irony is he had the car tested yesterday (as it's coming up to the year) and it failed on handbrake adjustment - life is just so unfair sometimes!

  12. I'd go with cam, followers and the standard ball studs. Standard springs are fine provided they are in good condition / haven't been ronud the world! This works out a lot cheaper...

  15. Having seen black magic posted this week for a radio code could anybody help me! Looking for the radio code for Seat Leon Mk1 1.8T Cupra 02 Plate Aura v4. Radio Serial No. SEZ2Z6B1562667 It's my wifes car which whilst trying to sort the ABS out on I managed to reset the radio and can't find the code for + I can't get it into the dealers till the end of the month all of which means the dog house for me.... Please, please, grovel, grovel ... eternally grateful for any help. Cheers, M.
  16. 692kg for my 2B wishbone 2.0L pinto full tank of fuel etc. for SVA. Given I have fibreglass seats; no screen; no heater; no spare and pretty much no anything else I'd suggest this is as light as it goes for a standardish build! Cheers, M.

    Drive Handling

    Handling on the wishbone variety is pretty good with the Gaz suspension fitted. I have trackday'd mine at Silverstone and shortly at Cadwell. Steering is very direct relative to a normal road car ( more like a go-kart really!) Pushed hard for fast cornering mine does push the front out (under steer) despite having a 4 degrees of negaitive camber. Many comments on here of how to improve the geometry to make the wishbones more parallel as the way they hang down as standard means it decreased the ammount of negative camber as the outside wheel laods up (wrong way round from ideal!) Despite this it is still quick enough through the corners to push most people hard!!! Cheers, M.

  19. Back on road - ignition set to 14 degrees as suggested and idling sweetly at 1000rpm. I haven't changed the ignition advance - running the ESCII it suggests you can't for this distributor? Been out for a short spin this afternoon and no pinking to be heard and does seem to be pulling better. I'm off to Cadwell back end of March and get a better call on it then. Thanks for all the advice all. M.

    Be particularly careful of the 'ancillary' gear which drives the distributor. There aren't any timing positions on it so its important to make sure it is 'about right' afterwards and then do timing properly with a strobe!

  22. Thanks Peter I have the original Weber 30/34 DFTH carb still running the stepper motor and ESCII ignition module. Lack of an idle speed adjustment screw is throwing me momentarily but I feel much better that it's only setup and nothing more catastrophic I've done wrong! Cheers, M.

Having fitted my Piper 285 cam to my otherwise standard engine I now find that to make it anything like idle it needs a significant amount more advance on the ignition (like beyond the timing marks with a strobe???) On the original cam it ran beautifully at the 6 degree BTDC as per Haynes manual ... flashback to somebody once told me something around fixing non broken things?!? I haven't as yet touched the carb as the timing was already out of sorts from replacing the timing belt but wondered if anyone can give their experiences... 1. Does it really idle that badly and therefore I should set the ignition back and crank up the idle stop 2. Does it need a majorly different mixture setting to run anything like 3. Have I stuffed something else up by a long way (pretty confident on cam and crank timing + valve clearances (no clatterng and there definitely was some!) Woudl greatly apreciate words of wisdom or I may have to try kicking it repeatedly and that would be a shame. Cheers, M.
  24. No issue at SVA without the front angle across the front of seat mounts. The way I've done it is with fibreglass seats mounted on 4mm alluminium plates which run full length of the seat inside the car (which gives plenty of rigidity) and only spreading washers underneath. My thinking is the weight of seat and occupant is downwards and if the worst came to the worst the mounts would only support the minimal weight of the seat as I would be hung from the belts!!!!
