  1. I use a 32/36. I get good MpG. I can seriously fwarp by flooring it and have both venturis open. Yes, tastes differ, I don't find the 32/36 a hindrance on my standard Pinto. Elsewhere on this forum someone mentions the 38 could seem thirsty compared to the 32/36.
  2. Good road-holding on that bumpy stretch.

    Type 9

Thanks. I'd never thought of a syringe. I can see the advantage. You can use one upside down if need be. Next for me is to get to the plug.

Hi, you managed to get a whole litre of oil into your gearbox! I have the same gearbox - with no issues. I've never managed to get to the refill plug to top up, and never applied a concerted effort so I've never checked it. It's in a monocoque chassis too. Your topic has encouraged me to look at this more seriously. So, did you use the filler plug, if so how did you get to it? If not, what cunning method did you use?

    Ouch My Eye

I'm glad you are okay. Your hair might have caught it. Thanks for sharing your story-with-a-warning.
  6. It's the monocoque (or however you spell it). Provided you are happy with handling, what stops you raising the wheel arches? Won't that be simpler, less expensive? Just a thought.
  7. Im in! Could someone please point me in the right direction or to the right person for this one please : when i paid my club subscription over the Internet, late last year I thought there was a message on the Web page to the effect that my payment included membership for 2015 too - or was I imagining it? I have not received a members card etc for this year.
  8. I was redesigning the air intake on mine the other day and realised the filter ended up near to where the exhaust comes out but on the other side of the vehicle an a bit further forward. Perhaps this hole could be a reliable source of cool air for your engine. You might have to route the tube differently. Maybe the coolness of the air would offset the effect of making the tube longer?
  9. "assumed" being the bit of the post that jumped out for me. We are unaware we are making an assumption at the moment of doing so. We all do it i think. Then realise later if at all. Hmmmm. (fit contemplation emoticon here) (and another here) :-) :-) I couldn't think of a nicer place to do a detour by the way. And I'm glad you meet finally.
  10. A facility to adjust the visor above the top of the windscreen would be good too. When I'm driving with no roof i often feel the glair from above the Windscreen is to much. Maybe worth considering for anyone designing a sun visor.
  11. Would love to but currently on honeymoon in the RH in Cambridgeshire this weekend. Thanks for posting. We are both up for future runs.
  12. Dismantled the left hand steering column switch - indicators, mainbeam and horn. Lots of little bits inside. Have given it a good clean and lubrication. A contact had got hot, softening the plastic near it which then kept it in a wrong position, rendering the switch useless. I've freed the contact and trimmed the plastic. It work, but a relay would be good! I now have headlights - funny how the headlights which are controlled with the right hand switch are so dependent on the left hand switch working properly.
  13. Thanks Simon B and 2b Cruising. I have not done the deed and I heed your warnings. I shall probably just rewire the headlights or some similar plan I come up with in the cold light of day. Scotch blocks are out.
  14. Kids - plural, so there were three of you or more. How did you manage that, more than one trip?
  15. Anyway, as you can see I used my Robin Hood for my wedding. This must have been done before, only I have never seen any photos of someone using such a car as a wedding car. Has anyone else? The guests thought it was great. My new wife was disapointed as her ride was only for 5 minutes to the park for photos. We are planning on a trip from Nottingham to Cambridge for the honey-moon, via A-roads preferably.
  16. I need to fix a second headlight switch as the original one on the stalk stopped working. This will be a temporary fix. It should be a quick task too, splicing the new wires into the loom with scotch blocks.

    Ebay Warning

I'm glad it's a happy sort of ending.
  18. I was in some of that - testing my wipers.
  19. Electrical gremlin has been partially banished. Now there is a problem with the head-lights. Did not manage the glueing, did manage the painting. Also managed a bit of a drive out up part of Woodhead pass and back through Glossop. Amazingly my daughter was pasenger an fell asleep on the A roads!
  20. It's on my drive now, first time in years! This weekend i need to banish an electrical gremlin, glue carpets, apply second coat of paint to the transmission tunnel.
  21. I used to drive a viva van. It could be very entertaining. With no load there was little weight over the rear axle and occasionally needed some anti-lock through the steering. Another fascinating feature was the way you could adjust the tappet clearance by ear. You could leave the engine running, remove the rocker cover and tighten the nuts on the rockers. It took about 10 minutes.
  22. I would still love to go, but can't. My other half an i were going to incorporate this epic trip into our wedding celebrations - a sort of honey moon. Other more essential wedding arrangements take priority and we don't have funds available now. This sort of trip remains engraved on our bucket lists. So we hope to make it one year or make our own way using the excellent route described above.
  23. On the video I saw more bubbles when you gave it more revs- pretty much instantly, suggesting combustion gases leaking into coolant.
  24. After a while in a garage, I brought mine back from its MOT test today. I'm looking forward outings this spring and summer.
  25. MOT on Wednesday - yipee!
