  1. Thin metals of what-ever alloy mostly need TIG welding by an expert --- if you wish to avoid pin-holes all around the joint. Been there-- done it -- FAILED
  2. You're doing a great job, considering you are working in the drive. Only managed a few hours outside to-day due to low temperature.
  3. How very true --- was using Calculus in 5th form --- could never understand the principle of there being two possible answers --- never needed to remember/use since. And there is always an electric calculator somewhere --- if you know which buttons to press. All present retirement calcs just need me to know the trig laws.
  4. Hi Alan, price & availability would be good-- do the bits you use fit the Eclipse tool & were you setting S/Steel nuts? Regards & thanks Bob.
  5. Hi all, I'm looking for the setting mandrel to fit an Eclipse Nut-sert Tool (also marketed by Spear & Jackson or Spiralux) to set 4mm nuts into my chassis (for removable panels) Would prefer to buy rather than borrow in case I manage to break it!! Regards Bob
  6. The biggest problem with an electric car (besides weight & cost of battery pack) is the number of times the energy is converted to another form---oil (or nunk or wind) to 400K transmission lines to sub-station to home to battery charger to chemical store in battery to electricity to torque at motor to road wheels. If all conversions were 60% efficient (which most aren't) 100% oil energy would become around 10% motive power. But then we are all going to hell on a hand-cart (if you believe the greenies) so enjoy the ride while you can. Regards Bob
  7. Some may remember, I have in the past year had cause to complain about service & kit parts from GBS, well,on a brighter note, to-day by return post I recieved my invoice for the 2B+ purchased last April-- thanks Ian, great improvement in customer service.
  8. Is not 4" soil-pipe available in solvent-weld as well as rubber gasket form? OR buy an old copper hot water tank from a scrappie & roll/solder your own pipe & ends if it's a garden/water feature will look better in copper.
  9. Looks like I shot myself in the foot--AGAIN--didn't know how to find the board rules as never use Chit-chat or Home as a way of entering the site. The rules are; Number 1 Obey all the Rules Number 2 The rules cannot be challenged. End of story, let me know;Mat; if you find any later mags to add to your picture!!
  10. Not sure who's ass your kicking Chris; If it's mine you need to recall I have only asked for INFORMATION not threats--my reponses have been about lack of guidance re: Club Rules & Regs & how this forum is conducted-- why is that such a big problem to answer-- knowing the rules, posted on open forum; will allow us all to play by them. That's all I want; then we will be able to comment (or not) when postings are made by mods which are not factual--i.e quarterly mags, these inaccuraces do more harm than us posting dis-agreements; unless; that is; members are banned from posting views at odds with the management.
  11. Strange one--behave as we say or we'll stop you commenting on-- just about every-thing--nice one-- it's the RHOCAR site until someone posts a comment the mods disagree with & then it's Mat's site with unlimited control over who can & cannot post. Make your mind up time; is this an open forum for the use of car builders or someone's private site where we play to unpublished rules or get expelled.
  12. Does Mat's comment mean we need to be like council workers?? all chiefs & no indians (usual disclaimer-there are other top heavy organisations) ---& the quarterly mag --- be very careful not to offer something to new members which to date appears shy of 4, like some parts from kit suppliers ; will my other questions be answered or brushed-off as Mat's reply seems to do. The interests of the club are best served by open & truthful discussion-- as posted much earlier I tried to assist the running of the club but my application was ignored---- less clouldy skies ahead we trust, regards Bob Fry.

    How Much Oil

There's always some-one with a sensible answer-- I was gonner sugest jacking the car up to get the plug-hole 10mm above level

Your petrol tank is upside-down. or your whole car is
  15. Thanks Tim, Rules & Regs are in mag just before AGM ?? I don't have any in the Summer 2007 mag ( next issue due December)-- am I a mag or 2 short of a full load?? Will the rules & regs explain the workings of who can & cannot post on here-- we need information-information- I am a free man not a number (if you can remember that it's past your bed-time-- & mine) Replies please-with a smile regards Bob.
  16. Yes you're correct--spRead what--asume? --assume this is what you where correcting-- can you reply to other points on open forum as quickly? Probably so as the afor mentioned post now appears to be open to all-- little niggles I know but why is the running of the club & forum so cloudy-- I requested Rules & Regs several months ago when I offered to help on commitee-- not even a thanks but no thanks reply. If paid-up members like me & st3v3nw don't know what's broke don't be surprised when we try to fix the wrong bit-- will a report on the AGM be available to members in the near future? The Rant of the Evening came to you from Bob Fry--Southern Indian & Old Sod.
  17. Spead the word, worth a go-- but not if you are an ordinary member-- another post by them that are more equal than us-- what is the point of posts on here that can't be commented on by the Indians-- same them & us as cancelling posts that Mods don't agree with (recent Stoneleigh post cancelled instead of discussed) it needs sorting so we are equal members or the rule book needs publishing---soon--maybe in one of the quarterly mags!!
  18. Must be a much changed guy from the Richard J Hall I bought my kit from last March--never did ever get a straight answer to probs. & am still awaiting a reciept for the kit-- still, building a car is supposed to be a challenge.
  19. Seems like Timswait is answering your Q & my beef-- is the 2007 RH dummy mac strut with the angled plate welded on top correct/better than the unit you are having trouble with? Regards Bob
  20. Grim, very interested in redesign of top wish-bone-- will your thoughts include a redesined mac-strut tube to get rid of the stupid angled top plate-- then we will be able to ensure the lock-nut is tight with-out loosing a socket per side. I'm in for new struts if they improve safety & handling, regards Bob.
  21. Not if you turn the air con/dehumidifier on when you put your baby to bed---oh life IS so hard for us retired Southern Folk--
  22. Stuck my carpet on with contact adhesive before fitting side panels-- looks good--black carpet (not RH) against the scotch-bright-ened S/S chassis tubes. Just make sure you cover all the panel-- I didn't & now have to fiddle a little extra piece of carpet in down by the rear corners.
  23. The Swedes thought that's how Nobby's nuts got in the packet!!
  24. Come-on guys-- when was the last time you had a flat on your tin-top? carry a plastic mac if you think it's gonna rain--& you may get a little wet--but no need for a life-jacket. Live a little nearer the edge--or do you take a parachute when you fly away on hols.
  25. Graham, how late would you like Easter to be?? Had a lot more snow yesterday; two weeks after our Easter BBQ (all indoors for us Southern softies),regards Bob.
