    Fuel

I'm under the impression that the fuel tank should be full when presented at the IVA. I don't know where I got this from, I can't find any reference in the manual, not a problem i will have a full tank when I go for the IVA but just curious. Also I can't find any reference to needing a fuel gauge, I've got one but again just curious.
  2. Thanks for all your suggestions, have now spoken to Richard at GBS and ordered the new wishbone kit, he says it will make a massive difference. Can't hang about any more as the IVA s a week on Friday. Have a good trip Bob
  3. Would this be the solution http://www.kitspares.co.uk/index.php?route=product/product&product_id=540 The rear arm of the wishbone appears not straight and would put the top ball joint further back. I do recall chatting to a guy at Stoneleigh who said he had fitted these to correct lack of self centering. Any ideas, thoughts, experience of this kit.
  4. Should have said for a 2B Plus
  5. Has anyone got a pair of short dummy struts I can have. Problems with the car not self centring and as I have welded the cycle wing brackets to the flange I cant adjust them so either need to grind them off or get another pair. Ta
  6. I also bit the bullett and changed the screen, silly not to on 2 counts, would fail the IVA and I didn't want glass in my face. Via a recomendation on RHOCAR I contacted Karl Copping, brilliant service. I posted him a template of the screen and within a week had back a Pilkington screen correctly marked and all for a total price of £115 including postage, and very well packaged up too. Can't praise him enough Well pleased and another potential fail ticked off. shxeconomywindscreens@fsmail.net
  7. Given a bit more thought to the VIN Plate. The DVSA web page has only just gone up so all the examiners will have been looking at it and as we know there is a great big picture of the GBS VIN plate with a cross to show that it doesn't comply. Would feel silly if the examiner said didn't you notice that was a fail. So to put another issue to bed I have made my own VIN Plate, the same as Richard's As I understand it you only need the manufacturers name and the VIN number so all should be good !. Before anyone says anything, yes I have put a piece of tape over the number just for the picture
  8. In that case I'm going to stick with my Robin Hood plate, can't really understand the problem from the picture and comment. Al's passed at Gillingham so I will take my chance. Very good web page though, if only a bit more to worry about but clearer
  9. And guess which VIN plate I have
  10. Good ideas Ken, I have put some paper under the car but will put more cardboard. This car is one step forward and 2 steps back, not funny anymore
  11. Just put in 10ltrs, primed the fuel pump and checked for leaks, nothing, will check first thing in the morning if there is a strong smell of petrol in the garage. Don't need this now, IVA is booked for10th July. Thanks for your comments
  12. Silly question but how quickly does petrol evaporate. In March I put 15 litres of unleaded in my 2B, since then I have started it up a few times but not driven it, not IVA'd yet. Today tried to start it and no fuel, no leaks, no smell of petrol, but empty. Would 15ltrs disappear in 3 months?
  13. Great idea will see you both when I get back from holiday, Liz says she will get the kettle ready and get some burgers in
  14. Thanks Bob, will probably take you up on that. Cheers John
  15. Oh well, finally done it, completed the IVA application form, attached my cheque and posted off to Swansea. Just a few things to finalise before the test, tracking and noise mainly, Al has very kindly voluntered to bring his noise meter over so we can test that. Then the nervous wait. Wish me luck John
  16. Just checked my screen prior to booking the IVA and no roman numerals on the screen, If I took the screen off and still had the screen wash and switches for wipers do they look on this badly knowing you will fit it once passed.
  17. Just checked and I've got 5 pieces with various bends and curves in them, reckeon you could get 8 or 9 straight bits out of it. Its mild steel and yours if you want it. John
  18. I've got steel tube 38mm OD but the bore is 34mm, is this any use to you, if so I can bring it along to Stoneleigh. Haven't measured what the length is, it's tucked away in the corner of the garage, but its the pipes that came with the kit for the exhaust. Will measure the lengths if it's of interest John
  19. It's posts like that that encourage me to get mine finished and on the road
  20. Camping tickets all booked, Liz and I will be there from Saturday in our motorhome, unfortunately not bringing the hood, not IVA'd yet but we will be in the hood next year. Looking forward to finally meeting up with some of the names. John & Liz
  21. Was hoping to bring the hood to the show but had a few issues so not even booked the IVA yet. But we will still be coming along, are there spaces for motorhomes, will we be able to camp with you guys. John & Liz
  22. The ECU has a + supply to pin 1 which is via the ignition switch. The description in the ECU manual says " Pin 1 battery Positive via ignition Switch ( Ignition Run )" Do you feel this may be wrong. May end up opening ECU as it is well out of guarantee. Only thing that points me away from the ECU is that I have returned it to Paul Dunnell and he has confirmed that it is OK.
  23. Hi Simon We did fit the old coil to check if the fault was still there, we rested it on a block of wood on the engine so it was not earthing, no difference, still no spark on the second crank. Ray is going to come round next week and take out the ECU and rewire the essentials direct and check to see what that does, he is also bringing round his oscilloscope to see what signals he is getting from the coil and sensors. He will be ringing Paul Dunnell to have a chat so he will know what readings he should be getting. Feeling a little more positive now. Thanks to all for taking the trouble to offer advice
  24. Hi Al thanks for taking the trouble to investigate, but unfortunately i had already run a separate earth to the coil pack just in case and it didn't make any difference. Keep the ideas coming
  25. Bob called round this morning to see if we could identify and rectify the fault. After many hours of head scratching and pondering no conclusion but the observations are; Turn on ignition, electric pump starts and runs for 5 seconds, correct. Crank the engine good spark and electric pump running. Turn off ignition and on again, electric pump runs but does not cut out. Crank the engine and NO spark. it does this everytime unless you wait 3 minutes and again it sparks on first crank but not second. have fitted new coil, HT Leads, crankshaft sensor and plugs. Good earth to battery and engine. Booster pack to the battery tried. The ECU has been sent back to Paul Dunnell to be checked and he confirms it is functioning correctly. Also checked the voltage at the coil connector and 12v on first crank and also second crank but no spark on second crank Got me and Bob stumped Bob do you want to add anything. Thanks to Bob and all for their help and suggestions John
