  1. Congratulations Richard, always encouraging to hear when a 2B does well, no probs for the retest. Gives me renewed hope to crack on with mine, John http://www.johnskitcar.com
  2. I'm still building my kit and haven't started the engine for probably 18 months. Any suggestions as to precautions I should take before turning it over for the first time in ages. Should I take the plugs out ? oil the bores or what It's a Zetec silver top Any advice greatly received Thanks John http://www.johnskitcar.com
  3. Hi Jonny, just got a few bits to finish off before I have the courage to book the test but the plan is to IVA it before December. Good luck with yours http://www.johnskitcar.com
  4. Well done Mark, now I must get mine finished, not really going for the longest build in history but if there was a competition I would be on the podium. Any hoodie want to call in and check over before I book my IVA then tea and hob nobs waiting John http://www.johnskitcar.com
  5. Cheers thanks for that, I did read the rules again and I think the way it is worded is that it had to be 19mm radius if not a soft surface or if 5mm radius needs to be covered by a soft material. My wife is very pleased that she doesn't have to cover the dash again.
  6. Picking up on one point, Florin said the dash needs to be 19mm radius and I have found that in the IVA manual but now very concerned as my dash only has about a 15mm radius. Not sure what it means by lower edge specified zone, hope I don't have to re do the dash, pic attached more pics on my web site Thanks John http://www.johnskitcar.com
  7. In the Car Builder Solutions Catalogue they show an insert for the fuel filler for unleaded, so you cant put diesel in, they state this is an IVA requirement. I have checked the IVA manual and cant find anywhere that it says that this is a requirement. Be grateful I any one could help me on this. Thanks John www.johnskitcar.com
  8. Thanks for all your suggestions, I think I will go with taking the spare wheel off and mounting the plate holder vertical on the back panel. Hopefully another step closer
  9. I did consider that but thought maybe the holder for the spare wheel may be an issue, or am I being paranoid !!
  10. Didn't even consider the radius of the spare, thanks for that, may just raise the plate for the IVA so it doesn't protrude, and also get a cover Thanks for your help
  11. After a bit of advice please on the rear number plate holder I have made. See picture attached, I will be fitting a rubber edge on the outside edge but my concern is that the plate will protrude and stick out and may fail the IVA Any thoughts or comments greatly received. Thanks John www.johnkitcar.com
  12. Well done, given me new hope, my test centre is Gillingham too, popped in a number of times and asked advice, No Pass Andy as he likes to call himself was very helpful. Where in the South East are you located. John http://www.johnskitcar.com
  13. Crazy isn't it, you can drive your car to the IVA, even though it may be un roadworthy and a death trap, but once it has been passed its IVA and is confirmed safe and roadworthy you cant drive it to the DVLA. I've still got this all to go through.
  14. Hi Willem I've been building a 2B Plus for the last 6 years, or maybe a few more, anyway I have been keeping a log on my web site. http://www.johnskitcar.com I have covered things like the seat belt mounts and the other points you mention. It may be of help, if not nothing lost Good luck John
  15. I have fitted a full size plate to the front of my 2B Plus, made a bracket to fix it to, seems OK but must admit haven't had it IVA'd yet, or MOT'd but hopefully should be OK. John www.http://johnskitcar.com
  16. That's brilliant Bob, will give it a go tomorrow. Cheers
  17. Yes I do know where the diff came from so the chart will be very helpful thanks, will check the tag in the morning. I thought maybe if I turned the propshat and counted how many times the wheel went round it is worked out from there.
  18. Can someone explain to me how to work out the diff ratio Thanks John http://www.johnskitcar.com
  19. With the not too cold weather over Christmas, managed to get out into the gargae and do a bit of work on the 2B. Finished covering the boot lid and side covers, very pleased with the result, has given me new enthusiasm to get working on it again. Happy New Year to everyone John http://www.johnskitcar.com
  20. These pics may give you some ideas Hope it is of some help John http://www.johnskitcar.com
  21. I've got a bell housing off a type 9 gearbox, no release bearing or anything else just the housing. Free to anyone who wants to collect it from the Rainham Kent area before I chuck it out. John http://www.johnskitcar.com
  22. Cheers Al will certainly take you up on the offer, will post an update following the rolling road. John http://www.johnskitcar.com
  23. Thanks for those comments, had me worried about the height of the rear fogs, just checked and they are 300mm off the floor to the cemtre of the lamp, regs max 900 min 250 so OK on that, I was aware of the vertical reg and had fitted a spacer to make them upright. Not sure what do you mean about the pattern of the head lights, The reason I am putting it on a rolling road is that it will idle OK but coughs and splutters like a pig when I rev it so would not be able to get it runnnig properly for the IVA. Dont know about the gear surround will have to check, I did buy it from Car Builder Solutions but thats no guarantee. You are right that the 2B had a number of problems, biggest being the seat belt mounts but I think I have got over that Thanks for taking the time to send me your observations, anything else you spot I would be grateful, better to correct now than after the IVA Cheers and thanks for your help John
  24. Taking my 2B Plus to Red Line Tuning in Basildon on Monday to have it all set up on the rolling road. Spending the weekend making sure everything is tight and I dont have the embarrassment of bits falling off. A friend of mine is bringing his trailer over as it hasn't yet passed the IVA If anyone has any words of wisdom or suggestions of what I should be doing in preperation then they will be gratefully received. Why do I feel nervous, or is it excitement. Fingers crossed Cheers John http://www.johnskitcar.com
  25. I cheated when wrapping the nose of my 2B. Made a terrible mess trying to get the snout done so ended up cutting back the wrap to expose the red fibreglass finish underneath, not what I originally intended but well pleased with the result. HTH John http://johnskitcar.com
