hi jess. Thanks will defo pay a visit once work calms down. Thanks again for the offer will be in touch soon

  2. Hi Steve,

I did the same as Dean, I drilled and fitted 5

rivnuts to the bottom crossmember, fitted a 6mm spacer so it was

level with the bottom of the body then sandwiched the nose using another

6mm plate (to spread the force) and fixed to the crossmember

with counter sunk set screws (m5).

Used Ali angle and rivnuts on the top.

    John

Thanks John, sounds like everyone does it the same. Like the idea of it being removable, so rivnut sounds good.

Just another question if you don't mind, Where did you get the straps to secure down the petrol tank?

    Thanks Steve

  3. Hi Steve,

I personally got the bottom edge of the nose cone level and fixed a stainless steel hinge along the inside and attached it to the bottom of the chassis.

It was then a baal ache of a job to keep offering it up to the suspension arm and mark out where to cut. Cut a bit and mark and cut, etc.etc.

I then used some of the door seal off the donor, the stuff that is the u shape crimp on with the foam tube type stuff attached. (Are you keeping up)

Glued that on with Siklaflex stuff.

I then cut out the grille section leaving about 15-20mm (I think) around the inner edge, this I then trimmed using the plain U shape stuff (It gets better)

I then stuck my grille behind the whole lot on the inside, and drilled holes for the caterham grille to sit in front of it all.

To secure it at the back end (near the light bracket) I made two angled brackets to fix to the chassis with riv nuts and then drilled for small bolts to go through the nose cone.

I have added two photo's, not the best quality but should give you the idea.

If you understand this you've passed the test now move on!

    Best regards,

    Dean

    Thanks Dean

Clear as mud!! Was kind of what i was thinking. Does this mean you can remove yours? I was thinking that i might be good to have it as a removable item for any future repairs.

    Thanks for the help

    Steve

  4. Hi All.

I am after a bit of help with my Zero. What have been peoples experiences fitting the nose cone. How did people line it up, cut out/ shape the sides and secure it to the front of the car.

Thanks for your help in advance, if you have close up photo's that would be great.

    Steve

    :D

  5. Just for fun, what is Santa bringing you this year?

Strangely enough, I'm getting E T B gauges from the wife, and other unknown pressies, and god knows what from my son

Is anyone else getting car bits?

Santa is bringing me bike carbs and engine mounts. Bring on boxing day in the garage!

    Steve

  6. Mine pumps out 130bhp with standard injection head and cam just as a guide.

    Dan

thanks Dan. Your set up is just what I am looking to do. how does the bestek perform? Most people want to use mega jolt. What inlet manifold did you use?

    Thanks Steve

  7. i don't know other exact sizes but my zx6r 2002 carbs are 36mm which it what a lot of 40 45s are choked at.

just my view but out and out top end power the webers may have the edge, but on a camy engine the CV bike carbs make it so much more drivable low down.

    woolly

thanks Woolly. good to get some first hand experiences. Now to hunt down some carbs!

  8. down to max choke sizes some are 34mm mine are 36mm others 38mm.

what are you replacing an why

hi wooly. Building a 2.0 205 pinto for my zero. Was going to go twin 40's but bike carbs seems the better option. Any idea what the choke sizes are on Honda and kwaker carbs. What set up have you got?

  9. Hi guys.

I am after peoples thought and opinions on 600cc verus's 900cc bike carbs. Do they offer the same performance or is there a big difference. Prices seem to be a lot less for the 600cc carbs so if they do not make much difference would I be better buying these?

    Look forward to hearing.

    Steve

  10. Gbs manifold 900cc fireblade carbs etc dyno'd goes like poo off a stick revs clean all the way and loads of torque.. 1500miles this season without a hitch.....

    Dan

looking good for bike carbs on my pinto. Do you know if you can use the cbr600 carbs? And do they just bolt on to gbs manifold with no alterations. Thanks to all for the advise do far

  11. I run Fireblade carbs on my Pinto - goes like a Cambodian with a meal ticket now :-)

Hi. which fireblade carbs did you use. Cbr900 or 600? Did you have to respace them to fit the manifold? Thanks steve

  12. hi steve,i had the whole conversion from gbs when i picked my kit up.they are honda fireblade carbs and a steel manifold made by gbs.no need to respace the carbs which means taking them apart and making good the gaps between the carbs, linkages etc so each carb is directly infront of the air intake on each cylinder.much to complicated for me.the kit also comes with a cable(from bicycle)and inlet gasket. bogg brothers do an aluminium manifold if your bothered about weight.and a set up on rolling road is advisable.main jets are alredy drilled out by gbs.hth.

    jess.

p.s, come along and have a look if you want(m6 j9).

Thanks Jess. will take you up on that offer. Weekends are better for me. Let me know when you have a free hour. would love to have a look at your car and get some good ideas. Thanks Steve

  13. hi, just bolt em on and away you go..................................thats what you hear anyway.when i put carbs on mine i could not get the engine to run.but this was the first start up after building the car with different components on i.e piper cam, bestek ignition, blade carbs.finally tracked the problem down to the carbs.took them off and cleaned them 3 or 4 times, got two mechanics to have a look, yes its the carbs.back to gbs with them, who hadnt got another set so richard stripped them and cleaned them, still spluttering and spitting fuel out so took them back again and had the set of their yellow demo car,put them on and bingo ran like a dream.after 200 miles took the car to torque tune next to gbs for rolling road.he said the fueling was spot on but still drilled the jet from1.60mm to 1.65mm and we settled for that.now running with 119hp or 138hp at the flywheel.hth.

    jess

thanks Jess. Is it really that easy? I have read that you need to respace the carbs. Not sure what this means. Which carbs did you go for? And which manifold?

    Thanks Steve

  14. Hi all. I am thinking of going the bike carbs route on my pinto. I wanted to get peoples advise and experiences with which carbs are best? Honda, yamaha etc and if it is easy enough to modify at home to fit a gbs or bogg manifold and what it involved.

    Thanks Steve

  15. HI Steve

Got mine from tracey tools in Torquay, there on the web.

Must have been cheap 'cause I brought it.

Just waiting for it to come back from loan........

Handy tip put a black line around top of tap for the

lengh you need to tap (its a long way) Go VERY slowly

as the thread is put in before the tube is welded, theres

    loads of weld/splatter in there.

    John

thanks John. Cheapest I have seen yet. Off to Stafford show will see if I can pick one up if not interweb purchase it is.

    Cheers

    Steve

  16. Hi guys.

Can anyone point me in the direction of a 18mmx1.5 tap for my ball joints. I have done the usual look up online and a single tap is about £20. I have a spark plug tread chaser but this is not long enough or strong enough.

    Thanks

    Steve

  17. Hi all.

I am in the process of building a 2.0 pinto zero. What battery will i need for the car. I guess not having all the electrics of a sierra that i can get away with a smaller battery! could i use a bike battery?

    Thanks

    Steve
