  1. UPDATE!! Hi, Just got off the phone to the SVA man. Looks like things are moving forward slowly.... They have now agreed to the amatuer build status on the back of the previous owners letter (Thanks Nick! and the multitude of photo's I emailed (300 of the buggers) during the weekend. However he still wants original reciepts for major items, which I have already supplied. I should hope to hear something end of the week if not to give them a call Monday. The SVA guy did say that they were struggling to cope with current demand (as expected) and that any SVA applications not granted before 28th February will actually be cancelled!!! SO GET IN QUICK! unless you want to get stung £580 quid..... I'll keep you posted as to outcome Godd luck to the rest of you also in the same/ simailar boat! cheers Terry
  2. Thats it now, every bit of info that I could muster! Thank god the previous builder was understanding as he has even typed a letter to clarify the Initial build status. VOSA won't be happy as I have probably just killed their email server with the 11Mb (on 3 seperate emails....) of photo's and supporting evidence. If this does not do it then I am at a total loss as to how to get them to agree to amateur build status. Fingers crossed!!! I'm determined to get my SVA application approved before 28th Feb and pay the new extortionate fees. I'll keep you posted. Cheers Terry
  3. Yep, I did the same. Ticked the part built by another person, Also included the bill of sale to me, reciepts from Robin Hood, certified letters, reciepts, photo's the lot! I'm now in the process of putting together war and peace to explain the cars build history. Hope this will now be sufficient? Fingers crossed..
  4. Looking more and more like a ploy to delay applications and extort even more money out of us for when the rules change!!!
  5. Hi Tony, Done that also. 50-60% of the photo's are distant shots showing my very "small garage" and the car on the drive. Doesn't seem to have made much difference with them on this occassion. Cheers Terry
  6. I'll keep you posted as to how I get on. Good luck on your application. Just hope someone can help me get over this small obstacle!!!! cheers Terry
  7. Hi, Having a problem with VOSA!!!! They have just rejected my application because of insufficient evidence of amateur build status. This is despite me sending them 30+ photos of the build and reciepts all signed and verified. Only 2 of the photo's had me or any one in them though... They are also requesting photo's from the guy I originally bought the part built kit from (I have already got these and sent them with the application) and a letter from him stating what he did in the build. Is this something that anyone else has come up against? If so, some advice/ help would be appreciated as I don't know what else I can supply them as proof. Or is this a more sinister ploy to delay SVA applications til after 28th Feb???? cheers Terry
  8. Cheers Mark, Thats what I originally thought, however came across another goernment web site which showed slightly different costs. Better get the cheque book out! Terry
  9. Hi, Have got myself totally confused as to the amount I should be paying for the SVA test and MAC. Can anyone clarify exactly what I should be paying? Typical goverment web sites....plenty of waffle, none making any clear sense! cheers Terry
  10. Hi Graham, Yes, got the original Mountney wheel on at present, so looking at fitting a sponge centre (sounds like baking a cake!). This will cover the metal bits and sharp edges... cheers Terry
  11. Just got my nice shiny new chassis plate from GBS and have a few questions...... Can I enter any number I want for the chassis Number (as long as it has letters & numbers and is exclusive)? Must be 17 digits? Also axle weights. Are these put on before SVA (If so what weights should I put) or are they added once SVA weigh the car? Get this sorted and my SVA application will be in the post. Cheers Terry PS A few photos of the project, just a few jobs to do for SVA. Got my eyes on a nice set of 17" Alloys post sva (don't tell the missus!) and a new dash to make/ fit
  12. Cheers, I have extended my front indicators to ensure they meet 400mm dimension to the edges of the front wheels. The rest I have configured the same as yours. Guess I will have to chance it and keep my fingers crossed. Terry
  13. Hi, I am fitting the front indicators (bike indicators) to the nose cone, however I need some minor clarification. I have seen drawings etc which state that the indicators must be 400mm max from the edge of the car. The drawings I have seen are a little unclear. Can anyone tell me if the 400mm dimension is to the widest points of the car (the rear) or just to the front wheel edge? cheers Terry
  14. Hi Nick, Thanks for the offer, much appreciated. I think though that the headlamps I have are fine for SVA. I have checked the markings and they are "E" Stamped with 7603 on them. (I will change to halogens after SVA). Good to see there is another hoodie nearby though! Hopefully I can crack on over the xmas break (just have the boot area and a bit of trimming to start/ finish off. Then I will try and get it in for the SVA pre-April?? Any Idea how long it takes to get a date from application? cheers Terry
  15. Cheers Mike, Yep they are Wagners... As I said me being dumb! Thanks for putting my mind at rest. regards Terry
  16. Hi, Probably just me being dumb, however I hope some one can help me stop worrying? I have just fitted the RH chrome headlamps to my 2B (Note this was a bought as an abandoned project 18 mths ago so I have no supporting info on parts supplied!). I notice that on both of the sealed beam headlamp lens was stamped USA "left" and "drive". Am I correct in surmising that these are for left hand drive, therefore not UK suitable? If so I will be having words with our friends at GBS to get replacements sent. Has anyone else come across this issue? Cheers Terry

    Drive Shafts

Hi Mike, I had a similar issue. The easiest way is to remove the old gators by cutting them off and fitting a split gaitor (glued down a seam). I bought mine from http://www.carparts-direct.co.uk/splitdriveshaftgaiter.cfm for £15 each. Saves hours of hassle as you do not need to remove the drive shaft. Take your time with these and you can get a near perfect result. Hope this helps Cheers Terry
  18. Hi Ian, I'm in the same boat as Livvy, do you have any photo's details that I can view for the mod's. Had a look around, other sites etc but can't see any details. cheers Terry
  19. Hi, Regards the stainless scratch's, depends on how deep they are. I had the same problem on mine with several scratch's on the rear wheel arch's. I had bought a polishing kit (3 polishing mops + polishing compounds...standard polishing kit) from www.thepolishingshop.co.uk for about £20. Used it loads of times and found it easily got rid of small scratchs on my arch's without looking a pigs ear. cheers Terry
  20. Hi Ian, I will definately be looking at sorting out the wing brackets. Have heard that they are not the best in current form. Fortunately they are not fixed on the car just yet so I am free to do the mods with out too much hassle. Hope to have the car ready for SVA next year. Will keep you all posted. Cheers Terry
  21. Hi, I know exactly what you are going through as I am in the same boat myself. Bought the car as a part build last year. 1st thing I did was to strip down and rebuild the sliding pillar assembly. Word of warning...be careful with those damn springs! It won't matter how careful you are, you will mark them, can't stress how much of a sod it is.. I have also contemplated changing over to the wish bone front, however want to get it through SVA 1st then worry about changing it. Which ever way you look at it it will be a real pain and damn expensive. From what every one has told me and from what I have seen, it will be a mod I will end up doing at some point. For now though its a case of us "slidey's" sticking together! If I can find the photo's etc that I used I will forward them on. Good luck Terry
  22. Hi, Does any one have the correct wiring diagram for indicators and flashers and know what the connection will be for Sierra 87 stalks? Last major obstacle on the wiring front.......... cheers Terry
  23. Thanks Nigel, That answers a lot of the queries that had me scratching my head for hours! I'll let you know how it goes (If the wife lets me out to play this week!) cheers Terry
  24. Hi Steve, I am wiring from scratch as the car was bought last year as a part build and the original wiring was a bit of amess. cheers Terry
  25. Hi, Having a little issue with working out the wiring for the head lights. Does any one have the correct wiring details for 87 Sierra switch stalks? I have managed to get Main beam and low beam working, but can not seem to get the flash to work. Probably something totally obvious...! I Spent 6 hrs today trying to get my head around it (should have been replacing a bathroom suite!) so if any one out there can point me in the right direction you may just save my marriage... Cheers Terry
