  1. Hi Nick, I have had a look at some after market tanks which are much better than what I have but not perfect. The reason I want to go plastic is so I can make a custom tank that will best use the space and in true hoodie fashon I can get the lads at work to make it hence the cost will be £0-00. At the same time I can fab the boot liner and make it waterproof. Thanks Steve
  2. Hi Graham Thats my thoughts but are the after market ones ie steel or other wide certified. Cheers Steve
  3. Hi all Ever since getting the car I have been thinking about mods to improve it / make it mine, and one thing it does lack is any boot space, the tank fills up most of the space. So I have been thinking of fabricating a plastic tank out of HDPE and incorporating it into the wasted space in the rear. I know a lot of car makers have used HDPE and looking at the chemical resistance tables it is OK. The tank would be of a fabricated construction and hot gas welded, after a quick measure I think it would hold about 6 gal. this would then give me loads of space to construct a boot, Just to add it would NOT be a home made job and would be welded by "coded" welders Does any one know of a reason why it can not be done as I have looked all over the internet and can not find any reasons. Thanks in advance Steve

    Will Not Start

Hi Derek, Have You checked the battery voltage when cranking, If it starts with a bump or a tow, will start if it fires first time or with the aid of easy start it could be the battery voltage is dropping below a critical level but not enough to stop it from cranking. Try to jump start it or swap the battery out for a good one. It may not be this but it is an easy test before stripping things down. Steve

    Newbie Needs Help!

Hi and welcolme if you fill out your location in your profile Im sure some one local will be able to help for the cost of coffee and hob nobs. Steve
  10. No just click on the file, it's a powerpoint slide show so you will need a program that will open it. Steve
  11. Hi Chris I would go for the abrasion resistant, it has got UV resistance just not the 10 year life of the longlife plus. If the car was always fitted with the side screens, left exposed to uv 365 days of the year i think i might consider longlife plus, but hey what state is your gel coat going to be in by then? Also if you go to amari dont go to the trade counter first, if you can go and see the guy in charge of the warehouse and see if he has any off cuts, you will be suprised at how large a pieces they throw out (if you are fitting split doors you will only need 4 small pieces). Now Prices If you had to get full sheets:- Scratch resistant 3mm x 2000mm x 1500mm £125 Booohooo Bog standard 3mm x 2440mm x 1200mm £50 UV resistant 3mm x 2440mm x 1200mm £55 These are the prices Amari would charge to the public so you may be able to get a little cheeper! Go for the off cuts if you can and donate to the tea fund? Steve
  12. Hi, Chris Polycarbonate is the 'strongest' and less likley to crack, Acrylic is cheaper but is very prone to cracking at fixing points, PETG is in between the above & Darvic is a type of pvc that will also be prone to cracking. My My personel choice would be Polycarb or PETG. What thickness are you going to use and how do you intend to fix it? Steve
  13. Hi Just after a few thoughts? I have a superspec with the factory fitted rover engine and am still in the 'runing it in period' 320 miles and counting. After reading a few threads on the forum although the engines are classed as new it appears they are about ten years old. In the light of not knowing the history of these engines ie how they were stored and the exact age, what are the thoughts out there on changing the cam belt. Thanks in advance Steve
  14. Hi Pleased to see you are OK and also when you get a good look at the car as I'm sure it will be to. Does this mean rain-x is no good for tyre treads in the wet?? and has its limits. Looking at the pics I bet at some time you wish you had Red7'S ground clearance!!!!!! See you soon Steve
  15. Hi Just to say it was great to meet all at the show today and I hope you did not get to wet, Hope to get out and about soon and meet again. Cheers Steve PS hope the rain-x worked
  16. Hi Thanks for the reply, I bought the car complete and yes it is one of the cars that came complete with engine and gearbox complete. oh the joy's of the robin hood I should have known better than thinking I would get to Do a few finishing jobs before I take on the major ones. I read a few posts about converting to a hydraulic clutch but these seem to be retro fit with the box left in. Has any one converted to a full blown hydraulic clutch with hydraulic thrust bearing? I THINK these were fitted to the Scorpio? but please feel free to correct me. If I'm going to pull the engine and box out I may as well do the job right!!! Thanks Steve
  17. HI, Just got back from a nice quiet run up the Wear Valley, After about 50 mile (10 from Home) went to change gear for a round about, Clutch pedel felt normal but I could hear a grateing / squeaking sound and I could not get any gears. Pulled into a bus stop to see what was going on, Pushed clutch in could not get any gears, checked the fork arm on the gear box for movement when pedel was pressed - full movement, Switched off engine and started engine in gear (could get all gears with engine off) pulled away every thing back to normal? Few mile later went to change gear, noise was back and could not select gear. tried a few more times and it went into second after this drove ok all the way home. Any idea's Superspec Rover 2.0, T series, MT 75 Gear box, Cable Clutch. (380 mile on the clock) Thanks Steve
