Piston and Props
Great time had at Sywell today, weather was good, loads of cars and bikes there. Action on the track with a wide variety of bikes and cars plus a selection of dragsters. Also aerial action with WW1 & 2 planes, bi-planes & tri-planes. Loads of food and drink stalls, loads of stalls selling "stuff" and live music on for most of the day. Well worth the trip & I'll be going back next year (hopefully). If you've got nothing better to do tomorrow I can definitely recommend it.

Change of plan - I know, nothing new for me ðĪŠ I can't go on Sunday, I'm now planning to go on Saturday with my grandson (and then I can blame him if the weather's poor). At least I can let you know what it's like if you're planning to go on Sunday.

Safe total pre-timing setup for 2.0 105HP Pinto Engine with vacuum hose attached
With your set up I'd say you were pretty close and if it runs nicely with no pinking I'd leave it "as is". Timing wise for the pinto, 10-12 degrees at idle and 32-35 at full advance (normally3500-4000rpm) is a good starting figure. Your vacuum advance can add up to 10 degrees on top of that, but you'll only get that much with the throttle almost closed and the pinto should be quite happy with that. With the throttle fully open you will have little or no manifold vacuum, and so no extra advance. If the vac. hose was left off you might want to check the mixture. You may find you're now running a bit rich now as the carb. would have been sucking extra air, particularly having an effect at small throttle openings.

I've just had another look at this. It could be a good day, it seems like there'll be plenty going on according to the website. https://www.sywellclassic.co.uk/ The down side is - entry for car, driver and 1 passenger ÂĢ11 in advance, ÂĢ15 on the gate. For me it's a 200 mile round trip which is fine in good weather but we're talking late September so I'm not committing to it in advance. If the weather's looking promising I may well go and pay on the gate, anybody else thinking of going ?

Robin hood series 3
Have a word with DamperTech - they should be able to help with Gaz replacements, fitted with spring rate of your choice. http://dampertech.co.uk/ 01709 703992 I'm not sure if Dave is still there but they had a load of information on RH cars and should be able to recommend something suitable.

Dirty Duck 2
A big thank you from me too, another great weekend even if the weather wasn't on our side. I think we should also give a round of applause to Chris, Charlie and Mark who came from Crewe and back in the rain, in a 2B with no windscreen or roof. Hope you've all thawed out ð

Fitting windscreen/wiper/washers to my 2b
You, Charlie & Mark all deserve a medal, the weather was not on our side yesterday. If you have an original RH windscreen it will probably be toughened glass, if it is I'd recommend getting a piece of laminated glass cut using the original as a template. Most glass suppliers will do this for you. You then need the frame and brackets which you fit in a certain position so that your wet weather gear fits correctly. Right now I can't remember the measurements but I'm sure somebody will. Once the screen is fitted you can work out where the wipers are going to fit. If you've got the Sierra stalks including the wiper one the right (with it's switches on the back) then it's easy enough to wire it in. If not it's no real problem to put a separate switch in somewhere. I think the original set up used mini parts but you can now buy a kit something like this https://www.carbuilder.com/products/windscreen-wiper-kit from various places ................ except everywhere I've looked at seems to be out of stock at the moment. So, a bit of a fiddle and a faff but nothing particularly difficult and I'll gladly give you a hand with it. Steve

I had a similar thing happened to me this year. The guy I've been going to for years retired and the people who took over his garage didn't know their bum from their elbow on kits. I spent a morning visiting some local garages who had been around for years. I had a quick chat with them, asking if they tested kits and I could tell straight away if they knew what they were on about. One of them was a small father and son place, less than a mile from me, who were "old school" and I could tell straight away that they knew their stuff. I've used them for both the kit and my "normal" car and they are a proper, genuine garage. I can only recommend that you visit any well established garages around your area for a quick chat. The newer places don't seem to know what to do with anything that doesn't have a computer in it. I think you'll soon figure out which ones know what they're on about. If you say "it's a 7 style kit car" and they say what's one of them? I'd keep looking. Steve

Ian & Martin would have been on the photos but they ran off when they saw Andi with a gun in his hands ðĪĢ

Super Spec Ride Height
Over the years I have had Gaz coil-overs with 2 locking rings and also ones with 1 ring + grub screw. The originals on my 2B had grub screws but replacements (from GBS) had 2 rings. I would recommend you fit grub screws into yours if they're missing so that they don't self adjust. I would also recommend that you check your corner weights. I wouldn't rely on measurements alone to get your car balanced correctly, RH chassis were never that precise on dimensions but are easily set up by checking corner weights.

Air Filters
Have a look at Ramair, amybe something like https://ramair-filters.co.uk/ms-007-2x-twin-inlet-motorcycle-carb-sock-air-filter/ They do wide a range of foam filters for bikes (and cars). I'm sure you'll find something you can make fit ðĪ

Robin hood badge
Hi Tom, Sorry, yesterday wasn't the "quiet" day I was expecting. Anyway, I've managed to find it this morning. Have a look at the photo and see if it's what you are after - it's self adhesive (sticky backed) flexible plastic. .

Kimbolton Car Show 13th July 2025
Just a point on Kimbolton. I bought an "early bird" ticket some time ago. Andy paid on the gate and his ticket was ÂĢ2 less than mine (he also got a programme, which I didn't). Lesson learnt, next year I'll pay on the gate.
