  1. Hi all just an update on the diff strengthening. I have strengthened front bolts by sandwiching with steel either side, not as a u section because of brake pipes at bottom of tunnel. I have put some side strenghtening on rear bolts and sandwiched it to body work. The centre bolt has just a large washer on it. Back of diff have bolted a plate to it, and bolted it to boot floor by sandwiching it with another piece of steel, all steel has been grip filled aswell as bolting in place. I hope this does the trick, was a real pain to do because as you know there is no access. I have attached some photos to try to show what I have done. Thanks for all help and advice will try car out soon. Andrew
  2. Thanks Nigel Will have a good look to see where it is coming from ,if it is the splines do i still change the seal. cheers andrew
  3. Hi Just an update Have taken off center tunnel top to expose front of diff ,noticed a drip of oil from oil seal aswell ,is this an easy fix eg remove prop, center bolt, remove pulley, take out old seal and drift in new seal , reasemble. Have taken off rear number plate to see rear off diff, will get some steel to start to strenghten asap. Thanks to graham for advice andrew
  4. hi Graham Thanks for chat last night, I have put the car on 4 post lift and managed to take photos of near side front dif mounting bolt. Seems like it has moved down about 8 mm judging by new shiny metal showing above washer. Off side front bolt seems ok and have not had time to look at the 2 rear mounting bolts for the dif, i take it 4 bolts hold the dif on. Will try to have a more thorough look tomorrow and report back. Thanks Andrew
  5. Hi all, Just been reading some lightweight posts and decided to rock my car in gear to see if there was any dif movement from the chasis. Seems to be a bit of movement there e.g rubbing not clonking sound. Any ideas how to check this out as panels seem to surround dif and are rivited in. Car was originally built by Diyer so some of you will know the car. Thanks Andrew
  6. having trouble uploading pictures keeps saying file too big can e-mail pictures to you if required regards andrew

  11. Just an update, flushed out rad+flushed out all hoses+engine water looked very dirty. Took out thermostat and left out to try as stat opened at about 95 degrees, filled up with water Ran car for half hour temp steady at 90 when in traffic crept up to 110 then once moving again dropped to 90. Will keep thermostat out for time being and put antifreeze in,also try to fit electric push fan in nose cone+bonnet vents. thanks for all replys very helpfull andrew
  12. Thanks May try coolman rad looks good in picture if it should fit Also may put vents in bonnet , whats best way to cut painted bonnet (aluminium) regards andrew
  13. Thanks for help some very useful advice Have not checked ignition timing as dont know how to do this, think i will need strobe gun? am running on unleaded+additive as 83 engine i think. Removed fan and hub (left hand thread) not enough room for electric fan, max space 50 mm with fan and hub removed so put back on,thinking of dual core coolman rad from gbs but dont think it will fit as 25 mm gap between blades and single core rad, coolman rad is 2 inch depth mine 1 inch so blades will possibly scrape rad Could i fit a rad approx 40cm high x 50cm long in nose cone on home made brackets +electric fan in front of shocks (s7 car), only problem i can think of is top hose will be lower than engine and hoses will be longer many thanks andrew
  14. Have taken rad out to get to 4 bolts holding fan on (not left hand thread),how do i get the viscous centre unit of water pump pully,4 nuts around pully+one big slim nut behind viscous unit, need this out of way to fit slimeline electric fan as only 60 mm to70mm clearance regards andrew
  15. Gauges are smiths and would think temp sender is standard sierra not sure how to check. No cowling round viscous fan not enough room previous owner fitted this, thinking of trying an electric fan in nose cone or behind radiator if enough room if so how do i remove viscous fan. thanks for your replys
