    Powder Coating

You can bake the powder in front of any radiating heat source. I use a portable small gas fire and halogen heater to do the job. I tried a heat gun, but that just blows the powder off before it can bake it. Nice thing is, if you c*ck it up, you can just go over it again as I found out when I dropped a piece on carpet and it got all fluffy ! Simon.
  2. D'Oh Me too I'm still not used to using this site yet ! I will look up "Golden Yellow" on the site I get the gelcoat from and see if that's close. I need to visit GBS next week anyway so I can double check with them. Thanks for the tip. Simon.
  3. Hi all, I'm putting everybody down in my book and I'll get started Saturday. This will keep me busy for a while and thanks everyone. Simon.
  4. Right - I'd better get busy then Looks like the next week will be filled with orders. I will let you know once they are made up. Simon.

    Differences

The build manual? Don't you build THAT at the same time ?
  6. You could try old brake fluid as a paint stripper - seems to work well on paint you DON'T want to remove Simon.
  7. Oh as for rule 7 - I didn't know there WERE any rules - sorry
  8. I wanted to see if there was any interest first. I was thinking £15 for the pair plu £10 postage and packing. This helps to cover costs with Paypal, boxes, packing, postage, consumables etc. This price for RHOCar members as I will be asking £20 on eBay (when I eventually put some on there !). ... Or if you think that's too little ... Each pair take around a day to make and if you would like a different colour I would be able to do that (After ordering the gelcoat) but this would take longer for the first order. So far I have now made three sets so I'm improving The first set, mine, of course Can you please let me know if you would like some and the colour (of course I can always do black ... Thanks, Simon.
  9. I am now able to make fibreglass copies of the original Sierra covers So if anyone is interested please let me know. I have attached pictures of the last set I made.

    Type R

Or you could mount the diff upside down - THAT would work (If you could stop the leaks D'Oh - some one beat me to this ! The comment about the type 9 running backwards would be true though

    First Drive

Hi Bob, Actually, I've already had the first drive down to the IVA test centre and back. The only time you can drive with NO number plates Jan 31st at 6am was quite cold ! I didn't feel the cold after I got the pass certificate though I'm now looking forward to getting the plates for it. Right now I'm putting in bits like trim and such. I only built it up to IVA level and now finishing off the other bits. I'm also making the steering column covers out of fibreglass so if you know anyone who would like some? I will try and get hold of some yellow gelcoat and make some up in that colour as well. Enjoy your car and may see you at some shows? Simon.

    First Drive

Did you take the IVA in Nottingham? I passed the IVA there on 31/1/2012 (and I'm still waiting for DVLA Well worth the wait though for the car Simon.
  13. This is how the mini alternator is fitted. There are some pictures in my build diary. They may be useful (or may not be http://www.sj-bradle...gust/index.html Simon.
  14. I "think" I'll try and attach thumbnails to this (First attempt
  15. I have made some master moulds from the upper and lower sierra originals and I made the first prototype and that went through the IVA without any problems. I am about to start making some more copies so if any one would like "pattern" copies ? Simon
  16. If you are fitting the inner panels in the passenger compartment, you cannot GET to the back to put a nylock nut on there. I put riv nuts on all except the two I could reach in the boot space and I put a button head bolt in there with the nylock under the wheel arch. A "tad" awkward, but it makes the boot space look neater I think.
  17. I have managed with a metal polishing kit, a drill in a vice and lots of time . I managed to get some scratches on the door sill openings (trim?) before I fitted them and started with something like 1200 grit wet n dry and then moved onto the polishing wheels with steadily finer compounds until I got them out. It just takes SO long ! Simon.
  18. Hello, Just to let you know, I took the IVA test on 31 Jan and it passed first time with only three minor items that could be sorted on that day. These were: 1) Front brake lock nut on wrong side of body panel. The examiner helped me bleed the brakes afterwards too. 2) VIN plate - wasn't happy with it so I stamped the number on the chassis - sorted that. 3) Two small nut covers over the wing mirror top nuts which he also kindly supplied me with So now all that's left is the DVLA bit, plates and fit the bits that wouldn't go through the IVA. And then - Drive It ! Simon.
  19. Update on the IVA test, it passed first time. Ok, there were three items that I could fix there and then, but all done in the morning so I was a happy bunny after that Simon.
  20. Thanks for all the responses, which have given me food for thought. As you say - stick to the standard for the IVA and I'll let you know how it all goes Simon.
  21. Hi, This is the first time I have posted here, so bear with me please Is it possible to change the headlights from the ones supplied by GBS and to fit HID Xenon instead? (Too late to change now before the IVA - which is Tuesday 31 Jan - so wish me luck !) Thanks, Simon.
