  1. Hi Alex, I know GBS have helped owners through the IVA process, so they may be willing to take on a Dax. It can be quite time intensive to revisit/work through certain issues though so costs can quickly mount. It may be worthwhile providing a little more information in terms of the current state of the car i.e. - Is the car complete and up and running, so it's more of a visual check prior to an IVA test (then at least you will have a list of failures to address?) - Or is work still required to complete the initial build, which is a very different scenario?

Being fairly tall I certainly know where you’re coming from in terms of trying to climb into something that seems the size of postbox opening. 20 years ago it was awkward, now getting in or out is embarrassing My hood and doors are a really good fit so I’m going to explore having some zips put into the existing roof - thanks for the idea!

  5. Decent shocks (all round) with reduced spring rates, tie bar modification and a good set-up should see you most of the way there* Plethora of info is there if you have a search and good read. As a starter have a look at older posts from Jim Stott, Longboarder, Mowerman etc.. they will give the specifics. *Assuming you have decent tyres and running them at reasonable pressures
  6. Saw your post on the FB group - loads of good people with great intentions, but often comment without any great knowledge of the cars (does not apply to everyone!) There’s loads of info on the site about improvements that can be made to the earlier monocoque cars - start with a search for ‘series 3 suspension’, which should get you started.

  10. If the pipe is not yet cut to size: - hold one end in a vice - grip the other end with a pair of mole grips or the like - Sharp crack with a hammer onto the moles = one staight pipe This works a treat on coppper.

    Marcus - Already sorted with a couple of mm to spare. Mick - Thanks you're a gent. I spent a couple hours cleaning and they've come up a treat. The stickers, sign writing and patina are fantastic. Fingers crossed they will give me another 30 years service!
  12. Danny I tried this by fitting one in the main section of the exhaust. It was quieter to the ear but still exceeded the level required for IVA as well as obviously restricting the flow and making the car run seriously rich. I'd recommend either cutting the silencer and replacing the wadding (Do a search it has been done), or better still replacing it with something a little better. Thanks...

Looks like a 3a to me too. - Need to do a thorough check for cracking to the monococque, especially in and around the pivot point for the inboard suspension and rear suspension mounting points - Also check the doors are also there with the kit Price. Personally I'd place it about where it is now on the auction - around £2.5k, maybe a touch more.

    Lew As has been said, work through one at a time and they will soon disappear. Then get it in for an IVA test. The worse case scenario is that it fails, but you have a definitive list to work from (All for 10% of the cost for a company to do the owrk for you). In fairness though GBS are a business and have to make money to survive. If I added up the time it's took me to do certain jobs and then applied an average garage hourly rate it would soon mount up.
  16. Said owner is still around but forgot to renew his membership this year so didn't want to upset anyone by actively advertising the car here. I have a chunk of leave coming over Christmas and would like the funds to get cracked on with my MG Midget. I don't think I've seen any decent IVA'd Zero's at the current asking price but I'm also open to reasonable offers! If it hasn't sold before Christmas the reason to sell will have passed so it'll be pulled and readvertised on eBay in Spring, with the usual +£500.00 on the asking price! Thanks......
  17. A budget of £4k should get you a really nicely built 2B. I also don't think you are a million miles away from being able to purchase a fully complete and registered Zero, especially if you are looking at this time of year. There are bargains out there but as has been said just go in with your eyes open.

    Gary - Are you going for a brand new registration, age related or q plate? As a guide I sent all the paperwork to Swansea arouind the 6th November and had the tax disk and v55 sent through (Separately) at the back end of last week. As all the local DVLA offices have closed I was expecting a massive time delay in getting this sorted, but got a really good service with no problems at all!

    Bit of a quick rub down with some sand paper, tube of JB Weld and some fresh oil and the car is now back home in the garage and still leak free (Rather impressed with JB Weld). Oil pressure seems ok and no untoward noises after a blast up the M1 so think i got away with it. Now onto the next hundle, registration.........

    Had a lovely 70 mile motorway drive to Beverley in monsoon like conditions. Good news - the car passed. Slightly better weather on the way back so had a little play. Quite pleased with the way it drove, not quick but very compliant. Bad news - It didn't make it back! The sump is holed. The car did still have reasonable oil pressure when I noticed, but the leak was too bad to risk continue driving. It's been stashed somewhere safe until I can hire a trailer to get it home. I'm just hoping there has been no damage as it's was a completely rebuilt lump.

    All ready for the retest tomorrow afternoon. Thumbs up to Martin Keenan who sorted me out with a silencer and link pipe. Built to my spec i.e. As cheap as possible but must be able to pass the IVA (Both noise and construction). I'm really pleased with the result, far better than the original in terms of looks and for a very good price.
  23. The car goes in for it's iva retest next Monday nad I've just broke one of the sealed beam headlights! Looking on the GBS site they don't appear to be listed anymore. Does anyone know a source (Are they just the same as the MG Midget Mini units?) Thanks....

    Exhaust Options?

    Aidan I have the same problem to you in terms of IVA and noise. I'm have a silencer being built at the moment which will include the connecting pipe to manifold. If I'm happy with the outcome (Which I'm sure I will be) I'll send on details. Thanks....
