    4x4 Strip Begins Today

If the wipe/wash switch has not gone with the column, any chance I can grab it? I will be at Donnington both days so can pick it up there.

    Need Shocks ?

Phil, I have 2 washers 1 either side of the bush to make up the difference in the Luego bracket. This is the same in the top mounting. As I remember the brackets were £7-£8 with post, pack and pratting about. They are based in Peterborough just in case you are close and save you PPP. Derek.

    Lion Run

Many thanks to Sue and Tim for a great weekend. Good company + Good food + Good Beer = Great time had by all. Both Marilyn and I have Panda eyes and a sunburnt forehead. I am well pleased with the car, never missed a beat in 350 miles:lol: As soon as the date is fixed I am booking into the Lion for next year.

    Need Shocks ?

Set the car at the ride height you want (jack up under the diff). Measure the gap between the top and bottom mounting. Go to http://www.gaz-shocks.com/home.html Contact us. Wait for your local distributor to call. Or better still go to http://dynamitepages.com/dampertech/ and email Dave. He has been very helpful service second to none: Then call Luego and get 2 shock absorber mounting brackets ready made to convert the bottom vertical mount to Horizontal. I have got Gaz all round missus is disgusted but the drive is so much better.
  8. I had a similar problem that started with the motor cutting out once per outing. It then got worse so I presumed it was the pump as I had problems before. Then it stopped totally luckily at home. The problem was the fuel pump fuse in the fusebox not located correctly and over the period of 3 weeks had melted completely as it was making and breaking the connection. Replaced fuse cost 10p Cost of other replacement parts :- Fuel cut off switch £5 Fuel pump £25 Fuel filters £15 Fuel rail pressure switch £5 Moral Check before you think!
  9. I'm staying on my horse; they'll have him on next. Thanks to Piddy and the East Hoods for their hospitality and a great day out.

    The Lion Run

I've at last persuaded my dearest wife the Hood is safe , still working on my driving , so our room is booked at the Lion Inn (she would only go if I had a tent with en suite facilities) Looks like I will have to fit some sort of weather protection for her. (Anyone seen a streamlined umbrella anywhere?) :gdit: Please let me know the details of the run when they are finalised.

    Suspension

[A couple of questions - What ride height have you gone for and how close (or not) to parallel withteh ground are your wishbones?] Phil, I jacked up the front until the bottom wishbones were paraell to the ground. The height under the bar in front of the sump is about 3" with the Gaz shocks fitted. When I was overtaking there were two rules, 1) between the cats eyes 2) when oncoming traffic permitted. Now only 2 applies. Sorry for delay in the reply busy driving!

    Suspension

I bought a pair of Gaz shocks for the front at the Newark show. The chap on the stand (very helpful) said " Jack the car up till you get the ride height you want, measure the length from the top mounting to the bottom" 13 ins in my case. He recomended 1.5 in travel to closed and 1in to rebound(open). He also recomended 300lb springs (10in I think). The top and bottom bushes are 1/2in dia as standard but Gaz will supply 3/8 in as required for Robin Hood fittings. ( I drilled mine out to 1/2in). 150 units of the Queens currency then passed between us and I was the proud owner of a pair of proper adjustable coil overs. The change is fantastic the ridehight is good, the bumpsteer has nearly gone, and I am just about to order 2 for the rear!

    Exhaust Metal Insert

I put it in for the SVA with tack welds. When the car had had passed I went to remove it and there it was gone If any one finds one, around the Leics Rutland area, that has been ripped out and passed by Robin; Please can they throw it away for me. Thanks

    Pre Sva Mot

I had mine MoT'd before the SVA, but the tester was unsure when it came to the reg No. He called Swansea and was advised to put the chassis number as the reg. When I registered the car the MoT cert was changed to the reg I was allocated. Don't know if this was legal or if my insurance would have covered me, but the MoT test station is about 1.5 miles away and it took over 45 mins to get home, got lost on the way!
  16. Good show GPO, glad you got it, best of luck with the test. If anyone else needs it please let me know and I will pass it on, perhaps the SVA men will start to recognise it and not bother with the test, the pad will say it all.
  17. I have one, to borrow send me a pm with your address and I will post it over the weekend. Its a luckey one too , both cars it has been on have passed first time . DON'T LET IT DOWN!!!!!!!
  18. Well done John. I put the relays in as well, RH have a pack available to do the job. I am pleased watching my car go through was such a help, perhaps others could benifit from this. Seems a good idea. If anyone else wants to borrow the Mountney steering wheel cover send me a PM. Look forward to seeing the car perhaps at the Notts meet sometime.

    First Insurance

I did my insurance with Gott & Wynne £185.00 for the year 5k miles with to and from work included** . Originally on the chassis number for as long as would have been necessary now moved to the reg No. ** I was told that when a restricted milage insurance is taken out it does NOT cover to and from work unless specifically asked for. Fuel Pump Switch

I think you should fit an inertia switch, so if you have an accident the fuel pump cuts off and does not empty the tank onto an already inflamed situation. The one I fitted came free with the donor but a Ford agent will sell you a new one or a scrappie will do much the same, they are only used once.

    What Paperwork

What letter from a garage, I did not need one no one asked for one. This does not sound like it's to do with chassis numbers but stick with it I think it boils down to what you have kept from the donor car. The information contained within this communication is as good as it could be at the time however the sender may have changed! There is a points system for the parts, to keep an age related plate you must score less than 8 I think. Changing the:- Chassis 5pts Axles 2 Suspension 2 Engine 2 Transmission 2 There may be more you will see on the forms from the DVLA So if you use all the parts from one car basically you have changed the chassis and possably the suspension unless you are using sliding pillocks ( I would argue they came from the original car {although not from the suspension}) Total 7pts Sorted!!! Make up a number, walk on the wildside

    Bonnet Vents

I presume you mean the louvres cut in the bonnet by RH. I agree with Terry the only danger is to you, if you hit the brakes too hard without your seatbelt on. Neatly sliced belly sir!!! Lightly grilled on the exaust.!!!With brown sauce!!! Mine were not covered and it passed without comment.
  24. Derek

    Vin Number

HERE is what I did, letters 3mm on the headlight mounting plate, where it's welded to the chassis so when the bonnet is closed it is covered. SVA man quite happy with it only on one place.
