  5. Hello all, i was clearing out a cupboard at the weekend and came across a CD full of build pics for my old 2b from the builder Pete Cherry. If possible i'd like to hand this over to the current owner if he is on here. The car was red and stainless and the reg plate was F971OWL I did spot it at a show a few years ago but havent seen it for ages. paul
  6. a friend of mine from school runs this place: http://www.theostrichderbyshire.co.uk/index.htm they do quite a lot of car rallies, and even run their own music festival
  7. Hello all, A friend of mine runs a pub in Longford near Ashbourne called the Ostrich http://www.theostrichderbyshire.co.uk They have a large field, where they have held car rallies for single owners clubs in the past and they were wondering about starting a regular car meet on a week night in summer. They seem to do good food and beer have a play area and stuff for kids to do and a nice location so I thought I’d ask on here to see what sort of interest there might be from those people that are local enough to try it out. Thanks Paul

    New Toy

Lovely looking beastie. Does it sound good?
  9. Well after twelve years of ownership the Robin Hood has finally gone, on a big boat to Holland. Sold to the dealer that GBSC use. Hassle free deal all very smoothly done. It was the first kit car my dad and me ever owned and after all that time he sold it for just 500 less than we paid for it. in that time its had one oil change and service and one new ignition module. other than that its been faultless. The trouble was it wasnt doing any miles really, it had done just 700 in the last four years! It is set to be replaced in dads garage by my gtm spyder when i've found something else to be my everyday car. http://s696.photobuc...ia/001.jpg.html

    Rover Engine

just heard back from the guy in the rover club. Unquestionably the man to speak to is Trevor Baxter of BXR cars, www.bxrcars.co.uk, and tell him colin robson recemmended him and he will be kind on the price, they just moved to Bangor so tell him to ring for a chat and to get the enw address. hope that helps. he's a rover nut so may just be worth having a chat to on the phone. they tend to be quite generous with advice in my experience. this thread may also be handy in future http://www.the75andztclub.co.uk/forum/showthread.php?t=70360&highlight=bxr paul

    V8 Radiator

i went the same route and got a custom made job. could have sourced an actual SD1 rad (but that wont fit in your 2b) but would rather have a new one. I think mine was done at Grantham rads (but this may now be the same firm as Jase had his made at) £120 quid all in i think. I found them after asking Gardener Douglas who made their rads on the basis that if they are good enough for wealthy cobra owners, cooling massive v8's they'll be good enough for me with a piddling 3.5! some of the guys on the locost forum suggest polo rads as they are pretty efficient and small i think. a search on there might turn something up paul

    Posting

i remember seeing some research ages ago that suggested that forums of this kind have a finite life. i'll try and dig it out after le mans. that this has been going so long suggests its been doiong something right. the creation of the original one may have been built around trying to resolve some of the more serious design flaws of the earlier hoods. the creation of more models, with specific and different issues may make people feel less like we are all in this together. shifting the purpose from an information resource toward a general chat forum is always going to be tricky. ideas seem to evolve too, about what the forum should provide. and its a tricky task i guess to hold all of that together as a concensus for a long time. the act that the online here is backed up by real time meetings helps to keep things together, but i'd suggest that other forums such as piston heads and locostbuilders for me are a better place to go for general chat, as they have a huge number of active members. paul
  15. just when i thought i'd sorted it..... i noticed that two of the wires connected in the wheel arch were not joined to the same colour. bingo i thought, that must be it. so swopped them over and yes the right indicator did indeed stay off when i pressed the foot brake. taped it all up again, only to discover that when i tried the indicator itself the rear light didnt come on, but the other right hand indicator lights did, and twice as fast (like they would with a broken bulb. so checked bulbs in rear light and both will work when in brake light slot, just not in indicator slot. also noticed that right rear driving lights shines twice as bright when pressed. what have i dont wrong? peter i looked out for a spare spade terminal in the light but couldnt see one. each light has two terminals each and all four have spade terminals attached. still at least its raining again :-)
  16. thanks all. dont know why its just started that, nothign else has changed. will run a wire from chassis. should it go into body of light somewhere?
  17. Hello, since re moving and re fitting the rear lights i've developed a problem with the rear lights and the indicator. when pressing the brake, the right hand indicator lights up too. i've taken the wires off and checked the woring in the light unit itself and this looks ok. put it back together again and it still does it. any ideas? regards Paul
  18. hello all, is anyone going to the ashby folville meet in june? by my reckoning it should be next tuesday? also it seems to start really early; i've seen 4pm mentioned. what time does it go on until? cheers paul

    Micro Car Museum

    i'd be up for that.
  20. im a big fan of engine noise :-) but if you get bored, i would recommend Koss mp3 plug in head phones. takes away most of the noise from outside (they are similar to ear plugs) when mp3 is off, and it means you dont need music up very loud at all to hear comfortably.
  21. will hopefully get the vindicator there at some point. its not yet been anywhere with its new carbs and manifold so not a definite yet. it does seem to run and tickover quite nicely. then just put some wings back on (currently open wheeled at all four corners) oh and put seats in fasten bonnet on, get it resprayed, rolling roaded....
  22. what you're getting now seems really quite low to me, dont know though if you're carb is particularly thirsty but it does seem like its drinking a lot. on a run my v8 will do about 30-33 quite steady and it probably drops to around with more mixed stuff so fort a 1.8 10-12 seems like there might be some gains to be made by getting it set up. the various rover forums seem to suggest that head gasket failures can be a problem with original equipment but if repaired with the right (more modoern-uprated bits) can solve the majority of problems.
