  1. It was steam. Its not being run again now until the coolant system is out on, had a lot Of difficulties with it so was run like that to make stripping it out easier if itbwas required, which it's not :)

  2. Angry grinder I have, tin snips I dont lol

I gather I need to do the same for access to the back of the handbrake? As I think the cables not connected/adjusted correctly.

As you have an S7, could you have a look at my thread below about harness mounting as well?

  3. I've picked up the new engine now and swapped the clutch and flywheel over from my 2.0 as the new engine was from a cortina and do had the wrong size centre hole on it. Tried to drop it in by myself but didn't get very far so have to leave it to another day.

  4. After tonight's work I wanted to start a little write up of my engine swap. The engine is being changed as the 2.0 pinto that came in my kit (I bought part built) has an undiagnosed none running problem, so decided to cut my losses and swap for a known good engine. So last 3rd feb I had the afternoon off and started with a car that looked a like this

The plan was start preparing the engine to come out, so drain oil, remove ancillaries etc. I also spent some time removing the screen, wiper mechanism and washer bottle as I am replacing with an aero screen. By the end of the day I had drained the oil, removed the carb, undone the exhaust manifold but it was still in place as it's a

Hell of a fiddly job with the engine in place, and removed the alternator. Didn't get a photo atbthisstage but not much to see.

Didn't get in the garage then untill weekend just gone and didnt have long in there. During the week my aeroscreen had arrived. The arrival of this made me realise if I am going to paintbit, then I need to pick a colour, as I need to paint the scuttle befor fixing the aeroscreen down. I digress, so next up was removing the swept wings and nose cone for better access, this was simple enough and I then undid engine to box bolts though there are two that are proving quite stubborn, and also removed the engine to box brace. This left the car looking like this

Then Monday my father in law won a complete 1.6 pinto on eBay for less than the cost of getting a free one shipped to me from a generous member on locostbuilders. So this is being collected Saturday morning so I needed to get the car ready to receive it. So tonight I needed to remove the rest of the front end, having not assembeled it myself I thought this might proove interesting, however my fears were missed place and after a couple of hours work my car now looks like this.

So there are still a couple of stubborn gearbox to engine bolts to undo, and the engine mounts to undo but then Friday night this engine is coming out ready for the new one to be dropped to place Saturday. Unfortunately I have my two nieces for the day saturday so connecting up and first start will have to wait until Sunday. Then if all goes well I can rebuild the front end.

I am massively excited, but also very nervous. Hopping to post back Sunday with a big grin on my gave and a first start video to go with it.
