One being the email address I had on the system was changed a number of years ago and I overlooked changing it here! Twit! Another reason is – my wife has never taken to the car and as we go most places together, the car has been dramatically underused for years, so I have ‘fallen off the radar’, so to speak. I now have a tale to tell. I bought D397 FMS about 13 years ago with the intention of insuring it for my three adult children and their partners as well as myself. It took a bit of persuasion to get an insurance company to agree to so many drivers, but we got there in the end. The reason for that was because this type of sports car was something I would love to have had access to as a young man, but it was not possible back in the day. As I could afford to purchase and insure the vehicle as a retired fella, I wanted to allow my ‘kids’ the thrill of driving it around – which they have appreciated. When I bought it, I made it my challenge to track down all previous owners right back to the original builder and gain as much insight into any modifications that may have taken place over the years. I discovered that the vehicle was built back in 1997/98 by a guy in Scotland who after a while sold it on. Strangely, it was bought by a guy who lived only about a mile and a half away from me … and during his ownership I never saw it at all. He sold it to a fella who lived about five miles away in the opposite direction, and again I never knew about it. How weird is that that it had been within a stone’s throw for many years before I purchased it? Contact was then made with the original builder and a year or so later he popped by to see the car on his way to a classic car meet/show in the midlands. He asked then if he could have the car back, but I politely refused as I was having great fun with it. We vaguely kept in touch via messaging in Facebook, maybe once a year. For the last three years I have been questioning myself as to why I was keeping the car as it very rarely left the drive (next door’s drive) and living continuously under a nylon cover was playing havoc with the overall condition of the vehicle and electrics! I spotted an MG TF on a friend’s drive, and the car obviously hadn’t been used/moved for a good long time so I asked later if I could buy it, and he agreed. Now what the heck to do with hoodie? MOT due September, and this year I believe work will have to be carried out in order to sell it. The original builder, from Scotland messaged me to ask if the car was still running well, to which I replied honestly .. Yes it is, with jobs that need attending to. I asked if he wanted to buy the car back, and he agreed without hesitation! The car is now back in Scotland, safely with the original builder, who will now strip it down and take it back to the great condition that it deserves to be in, after approx. thirty years of use. So often, on car group pages, do people ask for their old car back as it has such sentimental value, but rarely do they succeed in tracking their old vehicle down … this story, in my book, is a success story, and both he, and I, are delighted that they have been reunited. With regret, I am now leaving RHOCaR, but have enjoyed many different aspects of the club over the years, and wish you all every success in the future. It is an open-top kit car built for raw driving thrills and smiles per mile in mind. With only a limited number of examples ever produced, these are notably rarer than the more common Robin Hood variants. This car was IVA’d and registered as a new car in 2007, and is correctly registered on the V5. It only has one previous owner. The reason for sale is due to lack of use, so it is time to move it on and let someone else enjoy it. The car was assembled entirely from new parts (except for the rear diff which was reconditioned) around a 2.0-litre Rover T16 (145BHP) crate engine paired with a Ford MT75 five-speed manual gearbox. The tubular stainless steel chassis features coil-over independent suspension with adjustable Gaz gold shocks on the front. Full wet weather gear is included. Having covered just 2,600 miles since the build, it has recently undergone a light recommissioning following a period in storage, which included a fresh cam belt, Aux belt, fuel pump and fuel filters It has just been MOT’d so comes with a fresh MOT. Optional extras and modification above standard Clutch modification (Fitted with a ford 2.0 DOHC clutch plate, pressure plate, and modified cable mounting to alleviate the notorious heavy clutch. (Wishbone front suspension) Built by myself and passed SVA in 2007. It is correctly registered as a Robin Hood on the V5. MOT until June 27. It has covered 23000 miles and has proved to be very reliable. It is fitted with a 2.0 EFI pinto engine running the original Ford injection system breathing through a RamAir filter and four branch manifold.. Cooling is through a large capacity radiator and assisted by an electric fan, it is currently fitted with an 82 degree thermostat and 92 degree fan switch. Over heating has never been an issue. The gearbox is a Type 9 5 speed and the differential is a standard 7” 3.92 ratio. Suspension is GAZ shocks all round so adjustable ride height and damper settings. It also benefits from the front wishbone handling kit that corrects the original suspensions bad geometry. The handling kit adds camber adjusters and rose joints on the top wishbone. Brakes are standard Sierra servo assisted, discs front and drums rear and are more than enough for this car. Instruments are all Smiths Telemetrix linked to the correct senders so everything reads as it should and they are accurate. It is fitted with a windscreen, Mini wipers and temp controllable heater for demisting. It passed SVA with the windscreen fitted. There is full weather gear, roof and doors. The boot is a good size and opened with a key so secure and dry. It’s running on 15” alloy wheels fitted with 205/50 15 Uniroyal Rainsport 3 tyres that have plenty of tread. We decided to try a brand new venue that Nigel found on Google Earth, It was called East Carlton Country Park near Corby. That was a roughly one drive for each of us. It turned out to be a real gem, it is 102 acres of fields and woodland surrounding a derelict stately home. All the usual amenities, cafe, seats, toilets, walking trails, children's play area, scenic views etc... But the icing on the cake was an absolutely huge car park that was absolutely free to park. We talked to a park ranger who said he had never seen it full, so it will ideal for when we do a weekend meet when most car parks tend to be full. There were also mementoes of the days when Corby was a major steel proceeding town, so there were bits of heavy engineering placed all around (including the train). Robin Hood 2B V8, epic performance, ultra reliable. Built by me and IVA’d in 2011, correctly registered as Robin Hood on V5. Originally built with a 2.0 Pinto then upgraded to a V8 in 2015. MOT’d until November 2026. Huge folder of receipts, loads of build photos, absolute fortune spent. Specification as follows Engine Rover 4.6 V8. Cross bolted high compression block. Done around 17k miles since fitted, was rebuilt with new rings (Std), big end (Std) and main bearings (+.010”), cam bearings. Block surfaces decked. Piper 270 cam, new cam followers, timing chain and gears. New oil pump and has an oil cooler fitted. Ported 10 bolt cylinder heads fitted with big valves (1.63” inlet and 1.4” exhaust). Kent cams uprated valve springs (one coil less). ARP cylinder head studs. Adjustable pushrods and steel rocker arms. SD1 flywheel. MIJ stainless steel 3” side exhausts. Custom lowered and baffled bump. Serpentine drive belt and water pump, Coolman Cortina radiator, never ever overheats, even in traffic on the hottest days. Fuel injected with Emerald K6 ECU, Innovate MT-X lambda controller. Recently dyno’d at just over 270bhp and torque is around 378Nm but it’s not all about the numbers. Will happily drive at 20mph in 5th so very lazy when you want it to be. Transmission Ultra rare R380 RWD gearbox fitted with taller 5th gear set (0.732:1 was 0.77:1). Custom Dave Mac propshaft with heavy duty universal joints. Helix 240mm heavy duty TVR clutch. Rear Axle Cosworth Scorpio 7.5” viscous LSD, 3.64:1. Cosworth driveshafts. Polybushed suspension arms. Suspension GBS front wishbone upgrade (removes bump steer from the original setup. Gaz coilovers all round. Springs – Front 8” 300lb, Rear 10” 300lb Brakes Front - Sierra Cosworth 283x24mm vented discs. Mondeo Mk2 calipers, Rear – Sierra 253x10mm solid discs and calipers. Peugeot 306 master cylinder. MGB handbrake lever. Wheels And Tyres JBW minilite replicas, 6” x 15” front, 7” x 15” rear. 205/50 15 tyres. Interior / exterior Fully carpeted, fibreglass seats. ETB gauges. Premier wiring harness. Lucas wiper motor, classic mini heater. Driver and passenger headsets with intercom – yes, it is noisy. Comes with lift off doors and Surrey top. Decent sized boot, fully lined so stuff stored in there doesn’t get wet. Also comes with a removeable aluminium hard top. Has an opening rear window and roof vents. I custom made this for the car but haven’t really used it that much but it might as well go with the car. The photos with the hardtop fitted are from 2014, before the V8 was fitted all the other photos are recent. Full stainless steel chassis and stainless panels, Wrapped in 3M fiery orange vinyl. This is a properly sorted, well-built car, not Sikaflex, expanding foam and dodgy wiring. Price reflects quality of build and parts used. Genuine reason for sale – I have another car I’m building, and this one isn’t really getting the use it deserves. If it sells it sells, but I’m not giving it away. If you’re interested, read the next bit carefully because it’s important. I’m open to sensible offers but will only do a deal face to face. I’m happy to see genuine buyers but don’t want my time wasted. If you ask for the lowest price or message me with offers, you will be ignored. Since moving from Stoneleigh the attendance from the Club has collapsed. Last year only 6 cars turned up, and we were all based in the North. It's quite depressing when this is probably going to be the ONLY dedicated Kit Car Show of 2026 and nobody from the Southern half of the country bothered to support it last year. And it is probably going to be the only show this year where participants are not charged to display our cars. Last year the Newark/Lincoln show was cancelled because no trade members where prepared to fund it. If we don't support it this year then this show will also likely be cancelled for the future. So it's the classic 'use it or lose it'. You can see from the site map that we have been allocated the same stand as last year (E2-E4). So please let's make an effort this year, particularly the 'southern' members, to justify having a stand.
