  1. Has anyone fitted a transit indicator stalk as a replacement, if so have you got a wiring diagran for the pins on rear of switch, Thanks in advance Harry
  2. Hi I have recently acquired some focus stalks from the scrappers down the road and want to wire them up. Problem is I don't know which wire goes where. I have a good few inch of the multi plug wiring for both indicators and wipers. Can anyone help Cheers
  3. Hi all, I have a question about the wiring of the stalks from a 1990 sierra whilst I' trying to track down peristaltic drain. I am slightly confused by 2 spade terminals on the top of light/wiper stalk (right hand). The ones in question are on the attached above 56 & 31b2. Only the one above 31b2 is connected and measures 12v without keys in and appears to be connected to ground. Any help would be appreciated and stop my head hurting from banging it against a brick wall.
  4. hi all im after the sierra stalk wiring plugs if anyone has them kicking about. sold my old wiring loom but stupidly left mine on so if anyone has any, i have beer tokens waiting thanks, steve

    Stalk Wiring.

I removed my stalks from the car in order to fit the new loom, but I'm stuck now wiring them back in. The old loom is so butchered it is impossible to trace the wires as they are regularly joint and set in bondo and other unpassable goo. I cut at least 6" tails so I have the original block and wire colours. We seem to have identified the stalks as possibly Escort van type, no rear wipe, long round stalks with twist lights and round hazard switch. We worked out the wiper side, and the indicator/hazard wires, but having looked at the Escort manual, all the light wires seem to go to relays. I tried for hours sitting down with a multimeter on continuity to see which wire beeps when certain actions are made, but nothing! Does anyone know the wiring colours, or the best way to use a multimeter to establish what wire does what, as I am stumped? I will take some pics and upload in a mo. Cheers guys. Daz

    Stalk Wiring, Part 2

I am struggling now. Below are the stalks that I have. The left side of the diagram is the wiper side (with push wash) The right side is the light side with push horn. There were only 4 wires on the wiper side when I removed it from the car. I have a two speed wiper (well it was 2 speed when it all worked) with no auto park or intermitent wipe. On the light switch side, I'm not sure 56a is black, as the current black sleeve appears loose and is possibly just heat shrink??? Where there are 4 colours in one box that means two wires (black/white and black/white) R and L I know are indicators as I left the little buzzers on there. I'm guessing H is hazard, but where does it go? Can someone give me a clue as I have spent all evening searching through historic posts but have not found my specific stalks? Thanks guys Daz This is the Autosparks loom that I am using, so could someone (Nigel?) tell me which wire goes to what please? Column Stalk Wiring

Hi all! A rare day off today, so I spent it freezing my nads off in the garage! There was me thinking I had this wiggly amp stuff all sorted .... that was until I started trying to connect up my wiper stalk and after much pondering and loads of brews, I have now come to the stark realisation that I may have got it all a bit a*se about face! For various reasons, I am using the old Mk III Escort style stalks (without a rear wipe and with a horn push on the indicator end) Therefore, it appears that most of the wiring diagrams that I come across are for Sierra and don't quite tally with connection numbers etc. I have also put in a few extra relays to give a bit of circuit protection and take the main power draw away from the column - I don't fancy a small fire in my lap!! Trouble is, I had (incorrectly it seems) assumed that I would be able to just route a positive 12v feed from the column as a control voltage for my relays, but it appears that the Escort switches are designed to switch an Earth (especially the wipers - as I can't seem to get intermittent if I go with my original plan of feeding a live). This is going to be a pain as my relays are diode protected, so I have a major re-wire coming on I suspect! So my questions/statements is/are: 1. Am I right in thinking that the wiper column uses a combination of earth switching rather than using a +ve feed? 2. On my wiper, I appear to be able to use 54 as a common with 53 and 53b as the slow and fast positions, so if I use 54 as a common earth instead, I can use 31b2 as my intermittent line? 3. Can anybody tell me the exact inputs and outputs of my stalk studs please? I think I have the indicator stalk sussed and that won't be too much of a problem, but the wipers have been doing my head in!! I am off out for a curry to warm me cockles, so I will check back for the 'knowledge' tomorrow. Cheers in advance. Sharky PS I am a bit thick, so please type slowly!

    Help With Fiesta Stalk Wiring

Help needed ...i had a light problem where the dipped wouldnt work, so i went to a local aut sparks and he said i needed a new light stalk as mine was bust...so i went to the local car breakers yesterday and after a long search i found a car with practicaly the same stalks as mine which turned out to be a old ford fiesta..the problem got worse when i took off the original one and half of the wires fell off the back before i could mark the position which they had to go back in..as you can guess i havent a clue where they go.Does anyone have a diagram of what the numbers on the back mean please? it is the same as the escort stalks i am told. cheers Dave
  12. Hi All, Long shot, but has anyone got a wiring diagram for the Mk1 Focus column stalks (wipers and indicators / main beam flash) and ignition switch? I've got the stalks and proffed the stalk and ignition switch multi-plugs from a local breakers, just got to decipher the wiring so I can tag it prior to fitting to suit the SuperSpec loom. Cheers Al

    Sierra Stalk Wiring Harness

Doe's anyone have the 2 short sections of wiring harness that connect to the Sierra indicator and light stalks. Beer tokens or cash waiting. PS going to Smallways next weekend( in the MX5 ) Thanks Ken
  14. Thanks Al, Dont suppose you know which pins on the stalk its connected to, I think its the wiring as I said before the stalk wiring looks a bit dubious. Ive got some new plugs and connectors coming so will re make all the connections from stalks

    Fog Light Wiring

Just to add a few of my reasons for the circuit, which hopefully are correct. The diodes are added so the rear fog lamp remains on with both dip and main beam and both circuits are kept separate. The reason for 2 relays are the push button enegises Fog 1 this then as you say energises Fog 2 which remains on when Fog fog 1 loses its feed as the push button is released. Fog one then remains on until you change to side lights or switch of the ignition. I do not want to touch the steering column stalk wiring as they were a nightmare to get them to work correctly. cheers .
  16. Hi all, I'm in the process of rewiring the Exmo. The old original sierra loom is out and I have a butchered second hand VG loom to fit. I'm having to splice in the column stalk wiring but I can't find any details for wiper relays etc I'm sure I should have some extra ones, not just the flasher unit. Also am I right in thinking that the boxes drawn on the diagram are for connectors where the wire colours change. Hopefully my attachment works and you can see the diagram. I can only get so far before I'm stumped. Help me obi one you are my only help.

    Indicators Vicki Green Loom

Hi just thought i would put up the indicator problem has been solved tonight i turned out to be that the stalk wiring the two black and white wires turned out to be crossed causin no power to the right hand indicators now sorted so on to the head light flash and now the head lights are not working but have sorted the brake lights so progress at last thanks to those who tried to help
  18. Thanks for that. Is the extra insulation to do with the IVA? I've seen posts on people failing due to the length of the bolt and it's cover, but thanks for the advice. It's little nuggets of truth like that, that save a lot of time and money. Is there any documentation from GBS about wiring? All I got with my kit was a few diagrams on Sierra stalk wiring...

    Sierra Stalks

hi is anyone familiar with the sierra stalk wiring? im in the middle of rebuilding a kitcar and decided to pull out every wire and build a full loom from scratch. everything is connected up as it should be but im having problems getting the stalks to work. iv found a wiring diagram online, iv connected all wires as shown by the diagram but cant seem to get anything working but sidelights and hazards. if i put a live to pin 49a on the flasher relay as well as the wire from the stalk the indicators will work but im sure this is not the correct way. also on the wiper stalk theres 2 flat blade connectors, if i put a live to 1 of them the headlights and main beam will work but i cant get the main beam flasher to work. nothing is mentioned about these flat blade connectors on the diagram. does anyone know what i could be doing wrong? any helpmuch appreciated. john

    Stalk Wiring.

With ignition on the exciter circuit in the alternator may pull some current and warm up. With all the testing you've been doing with your stalk wiring it may explain the warm alternator. Just unplug the ignition feed for future testing.

    Rhe9 Wiring Loom

I'm not familiar with the Autosparks loom but first off you'll need to identify which stalks you've got as there's several different types. Have a look at this post http://www.rhocar.org/index.php?showtopic=24404&st=0&p=189388entry189388 Then if you stick "stalk wiring" (without the quotes) in the search function that'll give some more results - there's plenty of information there to get you going and you can fire off more questions from there. The local meet is at the Malt Shovel pub on the A45 by the NEC - last Wednesday of the month (so next Wednesday) from around 7ish
  22. Steve Not my strong poin but the stalk wiring has been done to death on here three or four times this year already, try doing a search from the top task bar and see what you can find out. IIRC some switches are live fed and some are earth fed ?? if that makes sence ??

    Escort Xr3i Stalks

Hi I'm using Mk5/6 XR3i steering column & column stalks on my 2B. I've joined the cables into the Sierra loom, and everything works apart from the headlights dip and main beam. Dim/dip is ok though! I think it's because of the earth cable that originally connected to the top of the Sierra column, on its own, near the right-hand plugs. When connected to the Sierra controls, the headlights go off if I disconnect this cable from the Sierra column. ... but I can't seem to find where to attach this cable on the XR3i column/stalk wiring. Any ideas? Thanks Pete
  24. Check the stalk wiring, as per the diagram attached. The flasher connection is the 4 inline block, number 15 is the brown wire. For the flasher to work even though the diagram says earth, Ford work on a negative switch for their relay. I am pretty sure the zero has a switched live relay. So when you connect this number 15 to the switched live it works. Try that
