  1. Hi all. I'm looking into building a kit car based round the mk1 mx5 running gear. My choices are either an Exocet or GBS Zero. Both have there perks in my eyes but unfortunately can only have 1 at the minute My only gripe ( this is purely because I'm a coachbuilder by trade and this was the first thing that came to my head ) is the joining of aluminium to the steel. Has anyone experienced galvanic corrosion with joining the 2 dissimilar metals ? I know powder coating is not a sufficient barrier between the 2 metals, it does last a fair few years but does eventually break down the metal over time. Not looking to scare anyone here either BTW.
  2. Hi, We are building a GBS Zero and have the engine in with the shortened oil filter. I thought that the 2 pipes coming out of the mounting were for an oil filter, But ive been told that the mounting needs to be removed and then the filter will go on again. It seems unbelievable tight, Any ideas how to remove it please? Many thanks
  3. Hi guys can anyone near the Leeds area check a car out for potential purchase for John (obecanobe). ask the right questions and get a feeling for it. in fact someone may know the car in question. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/GBS-Zero-2012-kit-car-the-ultimate-boys-toy-/291515516199?&_trksid=p2056016.m2518.l4276
  4. Hi everyone, I'm new to the forum, im currently in the process of stripping down a mazda mx5 to use as the donor for a GBS Zero and i'm almost at the point I need to remove the engine, does anyone from the West Midlands know of a good place for engine stands/hoists? (I'd prefer to rent than buy) There's a machinemart nearby but I have no reference point as to whether the price they state is reasonable. How much should I be looking to pay? Thanks Alastair

Hi just wanted to introduce myself as a new member. I'm new to kit car building though not new to car conversions and modification. I have a VW Golf GTI Mk I with a 2.0L 16 valver transplant with an Emerald ecu. I've just purchased a part completed kit (some of you may have seen it on ebay http://www.ebay.co.u...E:X:RTQ:GB:1123 ) So hopefully I will be able to get the low down and help from the experts. Thanks in anticipation

    It's Passed

As per the title, my Zero passed its IVA test yesterday, first time, :yahoo: and I couldn't be happier .... well Halle Berry and a hot tub might just clinch it , but you get the drfit. Just have to wait for the registration process now before I can go and pick it up. Will probably be the week after next now. Big thank you to Simon for correcting all the 'little things' that would have caused the failure including some slightly dodgy wiring to the starter motor (good job he checked first!). A few little jobs to do for me and then I will be on the road.
  7. I have bought the small Plug and Play sub loom for the Horn/Fog/Ciggie socket. As it came with no wiring diagram or instructions, I have downloaded all the wiring diagrams (as suggested by both Ruth and Richard) and Will even sent me a PDF of the loom, but this doesn't give me the final little step in the jigsaw .... which wires go on which terminals on the Savage switches. There are 3 sets of wires coming from the plug. Judging by the size of the end plugs, I assume the grey and brown pair are the +ve (grey) and -ve (brown) for the 12v socket. As an aside, if I wanted to wire in a second 12v socket, do I wire it in series or parallel? I would have thought series, but I just want to check. I then have a brown and orange pair which is for the horn button. I then have a group of 3 wires, red, yellow and brown, where the red has an extra spur coming off it, giving 4 connectors, so this must be for the rear fog lamp. So, loooking at the Savage switch from left to right the switch connectors are numbered 1,B,2,A,3, but what wires go where? For the horn I think it is orange to 1 and brown to 2? Is there a way to illuminate this when the side lights are on using the A and B posts? For the rear fog light, I am guessing red to 1 and the link red to A, brown to 2 and yellow to B? Can anyone confirm or correct what I am thinking? If not I suppose I am just going to have to guess, which was not really why I bought a plug and play loom. Thanks in advance.
