I converted my 2B a couple of years ago. Yuo can use Megasquirt for the fuel and ignition, although mine is fitted with bike carbs and Megasquirt.

I removed servo and pedals and fitted Zero pedals along with Ford KA master cylinder and mintex 1144 front pads.

I have a turo vxr engine in the garage so I may be pulling redop out soon.

What gear box will you use?

First thing to do is go on to Big Jim's NW RHOCaR site and read his vx install info. That shows you a mod to the cylinder head water pipe you need to do and how to make a suitable exhaust manifold from the original vx one.

What model 2B have you got? Wishbones, pillars or 2B04? They all need slightly different chassis mods to make it fit.

The bulkhead cross rail needs relieving to clear back of the head on all models, plus other bits, but nothing major. Pedal box area needs a complete reworking, either Zero pedals or do your own, MC needs to be moved inboard the cockpit to allow inlet system to fit.

Engine mountings need fabbing up, but no big issue. Bellhousing from somewhere like Aframe engineering,SBD etc, clutch arm, ford bearing, vx pressure plate and friction plate from an early 2.0 16v focus SHOULD do the trick, needs to be approx 230mm,with 25.4x23 spline.

Megasquirt will be fine for fuelling and sparks, I think it will recognise the vx internal 60-2 wheel, has it got the extra driver for a twin coil pack?

If using injection you could try Triumph Triple Speed four TBs. Chop the original vx manifold at about 50mm from the flange, then mount the TBs, they have separate injectors so this means you can use the original vx injector holes and either vx,Saab or cossie injectors as well as the fuel rail- that's all theory, not tested it yet!

Spigot bearing needs fitting to vx crank, you'll need a sump, plus various other bits n pieces.

Do a search for 'transplant time' by me, there's more info there

I have a helpful factor nearby, so I spent an afternoon there trying various clutch plates. I tried the Focus driven plate because the books say its the same size as the XE but it didnt fit my flat plate flywheel. The springs protrude too far.

I started with a diesel transit plate. I had to remove about 2mm off the outside rim, but it still dragged.

Ended up biting the bullet & getting one from SBD after a year (and a mortgage!)

Im using carbs so I looked at megajolt, but the powers that be said it wouldnt work with 60-2...it just means you need a 30-1??? plate on the front pulley. I just modded the original clutch arm, with an angle grinder & welded in reinforcing plates at the sides. It needs to be narrower to fit the hole in the bellhousing..I think he one to use is the RS2000.

I used a floor mounted pedal from Rally Design, & a tandem M/C works just fine with 1144 pads & no servo.

A type 9 is ok for standard XE power with carbs (about 170 bhp), but marginal if its worked over.

Straight or 0 degree bellhousing is the one you want, which RS clutch plate do you have? A rwd plate is only 215mm so a little bit small, the fwd plate is 240mm so too large. I got mine from Westfield, but they don't supply it any more. The guy in their parts department gave me the Quinten Hazell part number, C911AF, this is the plate for a Rover SD1 2.3/2.6 and they can be found on the internet for around £30

Engine mounts are a DIY effort, 6mm plate triangles to pick up the holes on the block, tube or box section for the arms and then a foot onto your rubber, the engine needs to sit so that the top front edge of the cam cover is 6.5 inches above the chassis side rails, this will let the bonnet fit and give you enough ground clearance

Just one more thought....to make sure the gearbox/prop stay in line, measure exactly where the crankshaft centre bolt is in relation to the chassis, both vertical & horizontal. Place a straight edge across the bottom chassis rails & measure from there up to the front pulley bolt.

Get measurement from fixed points at eithetr side again to the pulley bolt. Get the XE as close to these points as possible.

Cheers again guys. It is a pinto rs clutch I have. So I should be looking at getting a bigger one then. Got the engine out the calibra the day and it has the mighty coscast stamp ;-) happy days

inlet manifold, exhaust manifold, alternator, anything to do with the coil pack and ignition, starter motor, can't think of anything else really

Just had a thought, have you taken the injection pump off the calibra? Some had an external mounted pump and filter under the fuel tank, worth taking in case you go for injection
