Hi

My latest bit of torment is my cycle wings.

On full lock they touch the body work.

The car is a 2B sliding pillar, is this normal and if not what's the answer????

Thanks again in anticipation

No its not supposed to happen but alas it does seem to happen a lot on Part builts   Our Hood 2 part built hit a the side panels look Here

I think some smartly place Jubilee clips to restrict the travel of the steering rack is a way of preventing this, Or getting rid of the pillocks and fitting front wishbones :D :D

Getting rid of the pillocks would be nice but I would like to leave that for a later date.

Does the mudgauard touching the body affect the MOT or will I get away with that one. Obviously i don't need SVA so thats one worry less.?

I would imagine that even if the wing touches the bodywork, if the tester is satisfied that the steering rack has achieved full travel, albeit with some slight "deflection" of the side panel, he will pass it. But if it is difficult to get the full travel, that in my estimation would be a fail.

Yes it is a fail point if the tester wants to as when on the turning plates the steering is turned full lock in both directions the reason for this is to check that nothing touches that shouldn’t. Admittedly the check is intended for tyre catching inner wing, brake pipes fouling etc but any restriction can be failed. Just put a jubilee clip on each end of the rack and try that if it works then do as Nigel (longboarder) did on his (do a search).

Why don’t you need SVA I thought you bought it as a part built?

I bought the car fully registered and MOT'd but it is/was a 'shed'. A great deal of the mechanics were downright dangerous which makes me think someone put another car through the MOT last year and switched plates or they knew the MOT tester intimately.

I've stripped a lot of parts back and am currently reassembling it hence i don't need SVA

Cheers
