you could use the chromed copper that is used on showers ..its in local diy stores and joins the same as ordinary copper

Can't see why you can't paint it... use a heat resistant or barbecue paint or something.

You'll need a "special metals" primer first or will flake off very easily.

 

It will act as an insulator to a degree but can't see that matters. Radiators are painted....
