Fitting Bonnet

Well after much reading on this forum and peoples build diaries I have decided something is wrong. I keep reading that the bonnet should be approx 1.5" above the dash board cross member. If I raise the bonnet to this level I am going to have a large gap between the bonnet and the side panels, approx 1.5"....Therefore I have deduced that something somewhere is not quite right....The only thing is that my car is of the SS variety, does this make any difference.?

I have to admit it would be nice to raise the bonnet as it will give me a bit more clearance with the master cylinder...

Anyone got any ideas??

Cheers

My original 2003 Bonnet was about 1/2" above the rail, but the replacement I bought in 2006 stands taller at about 1.5" above the rail. Means I need to make a new dash when I finally get to fit it. Maybe later bonnets were made taller to give better clearance?
