Bonnet Is Touching The Engine

Having recently installed my zetec blacktop engine I decided to rest the bonnet on to check the fit..........and to my horror it touches the front of the engine.

I realise that the bonnet may need to be tweaked to fit but the gap with the bonnet resting on the engine is approx 1/2" on each side.

Has anyone had the same problem?

Thanks in advance.

Phil

i got my kit roughly around the same time as you and my bonnet is shocking, ive seen fags that have been rolled better than my bonnet, only way around it is to just tweak it as best you can, mine saggs in the middle a little bit so ive had to try and bend it in on its self to give it a bit of curve

Why is nothing easy..........

It has been a tough day at work,

after which I left my i-phone on my desk,

got carved by an arse in a 4x4 on the way home,

hoovered the return button of my laptop (during garage tidy up)

then discovered the bonnet doesn't fit.........

bailed out to watch the gadget show and an early night......

tomorrow is another day!!!!!!

Phil

PS thanks for listening

To get more clearance you can cut the bonnet, and heighten it like this Zero demonstrator.

It's not a great photo, but they used mesh and U trim, and looked good.

If you are using GBS zetec engine mounts you would think it would fit?.

Hi Phil :hi:

Have you fitted the nose cone yet??

I did the same thing without the nose cone on and it touched.. As soon as the nose was on it held it up and off the engine..

(altho it won't now it's in bits at the local recovery centre!!) LOL

Fit the nose and try again without the rad in and check for clearence..

Many thanks Mike :good:

Hi Phil

I thought the same early on in the build, but I had seen the demonstrator with the cut-out and thought that looked pretty cool, so I am planning to do something similar to that myself when the time comes.

GDC - nice one! 8)

Am I allowed to say 'nice under bonnet area' or would that be seen as being too familiar and/or a euphemism?!

Regards

I am a while off fitting the nose cone, but hopefully it will all line up.

I had the same issue as Mike, I really didnt think the bonnet would fit but once the nose cone is in place everything should be ok - in fact my bonnet fits quite nicely and I have a good couple of inches gap between the zetec and the stainless
