Wishbones

Hello all, I have just bought a lovely 95 built S7 (Sierra donor)and was hoping for some advice.

This may seem like a stupid question but can I tell if my S7 has had the wishbone conversion? I have read that early RB's are quite prone to understeer and that the conversion sorts this out.

I have only taken the old girl for a couple of short spins and the steering seemed quite pointy and oversteery. This may be down to the old Uniroyal tyres ( lots of tread but quite hard which makes me think they have passed their best. Can you recommend a good grippy tyre (Toyo 888's)? She currently has 6" RS alloys with 185's. All advice is most welcome.

Thanks. Woody

I have an S7 and had a major failure of Robin Hood Wishbones. On investigation the materials used where not fit for purpose. Rolled thin wall tube. I have now replaced the Wishbones and the handling is great. I'm sure fitting wide sticky tyres will have contibuted to the wishbone failure. I'd take a look at the North West Hoody website where they have snaps of most hoody front ends.

Thanks for the link, mine's definitely had a wishbone upgrade and it also has Spax shocks fitted though I have yet to experiment with the settings. They are wound right out at the moment and at speed the front is very light and "wandery". Looking forward to some testing!
