Hi all

Just driven 50 miles on filtered used veg oil with no problems to engine performance.

Great feeling knowing it has only cost me a few pence to blast around countryside,

Will be doing 300 miles to work using the same fuel in the next week.

Will keep you up dated.

Makes the project worthwhile.

EXCELLENT!!!

I was trying to follow the HMRC pages and got well stuck. :vava:

I thought it was 20p less than normal duty on an equivalent use fuel.

If, as you say, it is 0% duty, then fill yer boots and do it :clapping: , until the bu99ers change the rules, if loads do it, of course! :spiteful:

Over here, there is the same colouring and trace chemicals for industrial/agricultural and heating fuels, which have a lower duty.

I've been trying to find a dodge here, but difficult, especially being language challenged also! :aggressive:

Hi. I have hopes of driving the car to Spain in the near future.

Have an apartment near Fuengirola.

All the way on veg oil if possible.

What do you think?

David.

Right!

Have just consulted er-wot-knows-culinary-things!

Being as chippies are rare as hens' teeth, throughout Spain, other than on the Costas, we were working out where you can get your "fuel"!

Churrerías exist in most towns and are open mainly in the morning.

They make a sort of elongated doughnut, churros, that many Spaniards have as a sort of breakfast, dipping it in chocolate.

The batter is dropped into hot oil to cook it.

How often they change it, goodness knows, but I bet they will be glad to get rid of it!

Excellent reply.

Any cooking oil from a wholesaler will do for the trip as it takes time to process used oil, It takes a few weeks to process properly.

Thanks David.

I did this for a while, using methanol and sodium hydroxide ( drain cleaner). It was good stuff- used in a kubota digger and my l200 pickup, the metro even did an editorial on us!!. I thought about doing it big scale and got the forms from hmrc. You are correct in saying you can have 2500l tax free for personal use. To remain legal though I beleve you still need to keep records, declare the production warehouse etc. In the end the paperwork to keep it legat didn't make it worth it for us. If it's not legal, then you might as well go the whole hog and use red, or heating oil.

On the other hand if you decide to do it legally, I had good results just putting svo( straight vegetable oil) in with half a tank of diesel. When 20l of oil is 9quid at Costco, it begins to become a very attractive option.

That and a days digger work is more enjoyable when the whole area smells of BBQ.

Nice to hear people doing it though.

Hi Dave, are you treating your oil apart from just filtering it, ie esterification with methyl alcohol?

Cheers Steve

Hi Steve

No treatment at all to the oil.

This car is not designed to run on bio fuel.

The inportant ingrediant is heat to thin the oil.

The car has three heaters.

Two water heaters and an electric heater.

Only when the system is hot the car is switched to veg oil.

Cold start ups on deisel fuel, two tanks fitted.

Used veg oil filterd down to one micron.

Hope this info helps

David
