Pinto Sump

I have my engine out of the donor and looking at it, the sump is only 1" lower than the bellhousing ? Are there different sizes of sump, mine is on a 2.0L EFi, doesn't look like it needs shortening or if so, only a tad !

Hi Andy.

Yes there are different size sumps fitted to the Pinto.

The Capri ones were shallower.

Seems your struck lucky.

I have a sump from a late (92) 1.6 pinto. This is only 5.5" deep. Same as the recomended cutting depth on the 'how to shorten the pinto sump' article . Guess I'll be using it as it is.

andy, mine too was from an efi but that inch difference is a big difference when you look from inderneath

 

the job took a bit of doin but with kind assistance i did this!

Andy if you can do without fitting the engine for some time I will pick it up from you at the next meet and cut it for you also require the pickup tube. I have done several now using 3mm steel for the base as even with it cut down you will be surprised how many times you hit it.

I will be away for the next fortnight (warmer climes) as us older ones have to set ourselves up for the winter (no comments from you ether Bill)

Iwill take you up on that offer, i will get it cleaned up and remove the paint before i give it to you.

Not in a rush to get engine in, lots of other bits to do first, come to think of it, i aint done anything yet !!
