Engine Id

<_< Hmmmph!

I've just read the article in WK by detail Dean, on how to ID the pinto engine, and so naturally I am now totally confused !

I bought my pinto 2.0L from a regular advertiser in the kit car mags, based in Warrington, who assured me

that the engine I had paid good money for was an ex cortina 2.0L and was in 'good condition'

(Ialso paid him to put a new high lift cam/followers and timing belt)

this engine has done 2000 trouble free miles, and certainly makes the 2B move at a respectable (for me ) speed

but I am still curious as to its 'true' origins..

the engine markings are:-

RHS (Offside)

engine no. GT1222 stamped in the usual place

'cast' numbers in the block

35020

205

85 HM 6015 B-B

also stamped onto the block behind the exhaust manifold 'NR'

LHS (nearside)

in the area of no. 3 cylinder 'L2-286'

(at least thats the best I can decipher it as)

can anyone help / advise please

According to the list I have

GT decodes as Aug '67 or April '86 (Ford reuse their codes)

'67 is pre-Pinto

Does it have a large 205 on the block underneath #2 spark plug.

85HM6015BB is the same as on my '88 2.0 litre which is a 205 block

The NR if on the little web by the bellhousing could indicate that it started life as an injection (but don't quote me on that one

That's about as far as my info takes me

From my website

www.pickett30.freeserve.co.uk

in the sva section you can download a spreadsheet with Ford engine numbers/dates originally from Ford which may help......

(cannot upload as discussion site will not accept excel files!!)

Good luck!

Thanks for the advice guys, :)

it looks like I've got an ex 87 Cortina 2.0L i engine (now on standard carbs).......

probaly why there is no '205' cast in the block.

regards and many thanks
