Thanks Alan, Just looked for MK5 Escort fuel pumps and the top looks the same as mine with the 5 pin plug and the flow and return outlets. I can now have a proper look at the correct wiring diagram for pump function.

I have a question regarding the Superspec and the fuel tank that would have been supplied with it. I went to start it at the weekend, it would fire once and then cut out, it would do this each key cycle. I tried easy start and it ran. I suspect fuel pump, however I don't know the make or model of car the fuel tank came from. Any ideas please?
