Hi, I have a SUB K, the only thing I will say is make sure the sump is shortened before you fit the engine and build the gearbox tunnel on top. Mine was pre-built with a normal sump with only 2 inches ground clearance. Which is ok for 'Townies' but down in Zummerset us Bumpkins barely got flat roads and farm tracks..oooohahhhhh. ;)

The tunnel had been built tight to the gearbox and clutch bellhousing which did not allow raising the engine off the mounts and doing a sideways jiggle with the sump, which is the way you can remove the sump with other RH models.

My problem being the tunnel being built too tight, and the SUB K Cross-member runs right across the belly of the sump and does not allow for any forward movement.

Had to eventually cut the old sump off, which allowed complete removal of the engine. I then modified the tunnel top to allow future (easier) engine-outs. Fitted the shortened sump (courtesy of Battery Bill) and now have slightly over 4 inches ground clearance!! (I should add, all done with the help of Trevor2B)

Apart from that, the SUB K is fairly basic compared to other RH models, hence the Sub £1k price. Head lights are a bit higher than other models and the Chassis is not stainless.

Hope this is helpful

Cheers

cheers col the engine is already in the car and guess what ..the sump is almost touching the floor..a work mate of mine has a ally sump off an rs escort under his bench if its any good i might nick it..ripping the engine out should not pose to much trouble .looks tobe enough room and if it comes to it i.ll have to shorten the sump...the car itself seems ok and comes with all the bits it cost me 500.pounds so it should be worth doing all the best jim :) :) :)

I have a SUB K with the RS 2000 sump - I raised the engine mounts by app 15mm and I have app 115mm clearance , I think I may make a sump gaurd of some sort though ! even if its not a real tough one you shpuld at least hear it rub the ground,

The engine in my sub k is a 1800 pinto and its only 12mm lower than it sat before which was level and ive got plenty of space under but i will shorten the sump eventually

Bear in mind that the older Robin Hoods were not designed for todays SVA test. So you might have to make a few alterations to get it through.

One of the changes i can think of is that the seat belts must be mounted more securely, a friend of mine got a horizontal tube welded across the roll bar to mount them.

I think you will find that the sub K was released well after the SVA test was introduced so that should not be any more of a problem than any other RHE kit. :o

Jim,

The sub K was very similar to the 2B with only slight differences in the tubes at the rear and the front suspension set-up. The 2B-04 model was a combination of the 2B and Sub K (same front suspension set-up) but at a higher price.

There should be no probelms with the SVA or ground clearance if you fit the RS sump

Cheers

Jim, as basic and as laughable as they are. I would also recommend watching the SUB K Build videos a few times to totally familiarise yourself with the build

Also check out many of the SUB K related and other model threads on RHOCaR where you will find an abundance of information which should help you.

And never be scared to ask silly questions.. I do it all the time! There are a few members on here that pretend to be 'Scary' :gdit: but they are all for the most part incredibly helpful

And as long as you dont swear or be personally rude, post off topic or sell things without a Price, you will be ok

Cheers

Col,

Don't forget "Slag Police Officers off" some people didn't get a good reception recently for that.

And no it wasn't me. I was just the one that started the topic and wished i hadn't.

Andy

Damn: just realised this is off topic

IMHO leave it there. :p go for a shortened steel one with a base of at least 3mm and the bung in the side then when you hit it - and you will - it wont crack if you want to do the job your self click here for instructions or contact Battery Bill who has done lots for people over the last few months.
