I've decided to post this up now because I thinks it's useful information for people looking to buy a kit but who don't understand what they might be letting themselves in for. I'm surprised at the number of cars that come up for sale and are clearly not what they claim to be so I thinks it's worth running through a few details and people can then decide whether they want to risk buying a particular car. This isn't meant to be a definitive guide so if anyone has something relevant to add, let me know. Thinking of buying a kit car? If you’re starting to look at buying a kit car then it’s essential that no matter how nice a car looks or how much of a bargain …

Heritage Insurance have asked the club and it's members if we can help them with some photographs. They are producing a Kit Car Enthusiast Guide which will go out to their newsletter audience of 30,000 and will also be featured permanently on their website. Full credit will be given to the photographer (and the club will get a mention too). Details of the pictures they're looking for to help complete the guide are listed below. If you can help out please send your pictures to myself chairman_rhocar@btinternet.com and I'll pass them directly to Heritage on your behalf. 1. Caterham Seven — action shot on road or circuit, ideally with driver in helmet 2. Caterham Seven — bui…

Hi there. I've just bought a Douglas TF, a copy of the 1950s MG TF. I think these might be quite rare as Wikipedia says only 15 were made. I believe that most were based on the Triumph Herald/Vitesse chassis and running gear, however, mine is the Ford Escort Mk1/2 option. Can members confirm the low production numbers? Wiki suggests the Escort version had a chassis developed by Douglas. Is this true? Finally, are there any other Douglas TFs out there. A bit about me: I have made a Jago Geep, Robin Hood Srs III and a Banham Sprint and restored various military Jeeps and Land Rovers. Photo of the TF is included.

Hi all, I joined because I’m looking for a particular Robin Hood 2B blue red trim, the reason being it was my grandads car that he built entirely using parts from a donor ford sierra and other parts from various places and companies, I have the full build diary and some photos, his name was Eric barker who lived in Irlam, cadishead and unfortunately passed away a few years ago now but before he did he sadly had to sell his 3 kit cars, he also had a JBA Falcon which I’m trying to find that was unpainted body at the time and also a Silver Marlin 5Exi with black interior, I only have the photo of the Robin Hood for now but I’m hoping someone can help me track these cars down,…

So I’ve been chasing a really strange noise that transmits through the prop shaft as a ping sound every couple of revolutions. So far I’ve replaced the uj. I’ve had the diff out and adjusted the backlash and pre loaded the bearings to Ford spec. I’ve stripped apart the cv joints re greased and had all of the rear suspension off and cleaned and re greased. The noise is still there and it’s driving me insane. Does anyone have any suggestions. It’s running a zetec 2ltr on a mt75 gearbox. On the plus side of all this what I have done will make sure the back end of it last a while before needing anything. I have also in the process made a cad file for the spanner to undo the c…

Hello people new to the kitcar world , I have just purchased a Robin Hood mk1 Sierra s7 mainly built . I have no paperwork at all for the Robin or pictures so my question is , to get an IVA I have been told I need photo proof off the build so I'm thinking , engine and gearbox out also front and rear axle off , and steering column out too , clean it all up and then rebuild taking photos off everything I do also the body itself , would this be enough to qualify for an IVA ??? I have the registration documents for the donor car ( Sierra ) and it's VIN plate Many thanks in advance

Hi All, New to the group and have just purchased a Mac1 worx ZX10R. An absolute blast to drive but does need some TLC to body and chaissis in areas where rust has started. Worst part is an upright section on the side by drivers knee where all I can think is it has filled with water and frozen as it has ballooned outwards. Anyway all mainly superficial but I have no real history behind the car and it appears Mac 1 folded a few years ago. does anyone know the old owners of Mac1 or have any contact details so I can ask them a few questions? also anyone else here own a Mac one and know where to get parts from? cheers dan

Hi all I have a mini based kit car from the seventies which i bought and rebuilt. My problem is i never got an original chassis plate and the log book like a lot of early kits and builds doesn't match the car properly. The DVLA inspected the car because i wanted to remove the number which i promised back to the original owner and they say i will have to re register the car because of the plate and log book. Is this something that can be resolved? as the DVLA were not that much help. I would appreciate any help as I'm a bit lost with it and must say was naïve in buying without knowing this.

After a few attempts of getting the car started with no luck, my breakdown cover are willing to take the car to a mechanic to take a look. The only issue is, they only take it to one and if they can't fix it, they won't take it to another. So do you have a recommended garage near Bedford?

Back in 2006 I built a Robin Hood based around a Ford Sierra Sapphire. I built it to the best of my ability and expected it would last for some time. Like many people I used it then needed the money to finance something else. Again like many other people I soon regretted the decision. I have found via the DVLA web site that the car has been un-taxed and not MoTed since 2011 there could be numerous reasons for this used on track only or parked and forgotten. I am now in my late 70's and would love to know if its still being tracked or is it abandoned and unloved. If its the former then I am delighted that my build has lasted, if the later then maybe there is an o…

Hi All, I've removed the engine and gearbox from my donor car so I can get an age related number plate. I've taken lots of photos and videos as evidence. I don't expect to finish the kit build for several years and I don't want the donor car sat around that long. Will I need the original V5 when registering the kit car ? If I scrap the donor car does the V5 have to be handed over ? Any advice greatly appreciated

I've recently purchased a sylvia striker with a kawasaki zzr1100 bike engine in it. I'm planning on working on it over winter but unfortunately I don't have any sort of manual that relates to the original build itself of its design. If anyone could point me in the correct direction to a manual or a pdf.

Hi All, I have been doing some research in past threads but only seem to find dated info. As a newbie naturally I have a lot of questions so apologies. in terms of eye wear is there anything anyone can recommend, a few threads pointed me to uk sports eye wear but with so many different variants I am unsure which would be the best one to go for, any recommendations would be great Same with helmets do you go for anything race specific or a case going down to your local motorbike shop and picking the best one that you find comfortable for long days out? Additional Security Is there anything you go for specifically if your out and about on a days…
