Floor Strengthener

Advice please. Just fitting the 25mm angle iron to the rear subframe chassis mounting plates and following the way others have fixed it, I have used 8mm HT bolts and intend finishing using Nylocs.

Now started making the "U" shaped piece to fit inside the tunnel and pick up the inside seatbelt mountings. My question is should the nuts used to fix this piece be welded (captive) or are Nylocs acceptable?

The important thing is that you can remove and refit the seat belt bolts easily. So if you can't get at the nuts, they will need to be captive, otherwise nylocs are fine.

The SVA test spends quite a bit of time looking at the method of fixing, and will probably ask you questions about it.

Many Thanks Charles. The reason I asked is I don't have access to welding equipment - if I did I would not know how to use it!! However, I can see that the nuts to connect to the strengthening angle iron for the "U" shaped piece for the inside seat belt mounts will need to be captive, as will the seat belt bolt nuts.

My mission, should I decide to acccept, will be to find someone to take money to weld this for me. It shouldn't be too much of a problem. Thanks again

Regards

Chris

Guest Mr Pid

Is the extra bracket necessary?

My seatbelt harnesses are bolted through the floor strengthener directly. Seem very secure to me?! ;)

Will this be ok on the SVA or do i need special fangled brackets?

Stu

The SVA requirement is that if you need to change the seat belt, you can do it without dismantling the car hence the captive nuts if the nut is not easily accessable.

If you can easily get to both nut and bolt to change the seat belt, no problem.

You dont need any Fangles.
