Problems with the chassis? Not lining up? Doesn't make sense...

EXMOers: please read on.... I have just received the latest RHOCAR mag and there is an item where Dave Thompson has reported a very serious safety issue with his EXMO. After reading the article I nipped into the garage and had a look at mine and found exactly the same potentially disastrous problem! The problem is at the point where the top of the front suspension struts mount through the chassis outriggers. The top of the struts simply bolt through the channel section outriggers so all the load is concentrated on a very small area of 1.6mm thick stainless steel. In my opinion this is a very serious design fault by RHE and if you own an EXMO please check yours no…

Hello everyone has anyone got any pictures of how you have reinforced the floor on a S7 many thanks

I have a sandrail built on a 1303 Beetle chassis (the one with McPherson struts). I'd like to build new arms so they have more camber adjustment. Below are some images of lower arm/ARB. And an arm someone else has made. It looks pretty simple. They rose jointed it, which is probably overkill for a beetle. I would be happy using the inner bush, but roses might be easier?

OK - so does anyone know how Robin Hood allocated chassis numbers? Were they numbered by RH or were they allocated locally by the builder or Test Station when they were first registered?? I have a Sierra 7 with a chassis number ending 000000000001......! Is this actually the first one produced?

  8. Started by jimmyybob,

Does this look right. The string is centred on the chassis, engine is off to one side.

First day, first issue. The upper wishbone is miles away from the rear mount, is the arm incorrect or worse the actual frame. Has anyone got some dimensions for either part please.

I have bought a Robin Hood that is not a 2B so does not have a Tubular chassis. I assume it is an early kit. What material will have been used to manufacture the chassis? what is the best way to prepare it for treatment? What should I treat it with? Named products would be useful. It has 185/55 x 15 tyres so what pressures should I use front and back? Any info/advice will be appreciated. Thanks. Mick.

Might be a bit of a silly question but do I need to compress these strings to take the shock assembly off the car? And whist I am at it should I upgrade anything? Thanks

Hi, I am building a Scimitar SS1 to run in full Modified Sports Car class in sprints/hillclimbs. I am required to retain trailing arm rear suspension, but I will be fabricating fully adjustable tubular arms & mountings onto modified rear chassis structure. The original rear suspension is semi-trailing arms, and I will be making it into simple trailing arms without camber/toe change built into the geometry (12" wide slicks). I thought I might use Sierra trailing arms to mate to the XR4x4 diff and let me use Sierra rear discs in place of the SS1 drums. I have been hacking up a pair of Sierra trailing arms (incredibly heavy and bulky + too wide and horrible to modif…

I’m in a bit of desperate need! The steering rack has bent on our Robin Hood 2b with sliding pillar suspension, have been told it’s a LHD metro rack, can anyone confirm this? if this is correct does anyone know where I can get a replacement? Need one asap! Would this be a direct replacement? https://www.mikesatur.co.uk/-MGF-and-MGTF-Left-Hand-Drive-Steering-Rack

  14. The few pictures I have seen of the EXMO use the standard sierra ARB up front, yet mine has compression struts. Was there a revision or has this been done off piste by the original builder. It has the long rear shox which I may or may not think about doing something with. Cheers Rob

Hello all, I have bought my very fist kit car yesterday, was not a great experience to be honest as the car has some substantial rust and I am wondering if anyone knows how it can be treated? Also the floor needs to be repaired/replaced as it is damaged. What’s the best way of fixing these issues and if anyone has any experience, how much will it roughly cost? Thank you, Thanasis

So I’ve owned my Robin Hood new mark3 for a year now, the rears already have Gaz shocks, the front are still the standard originals with the red springs & zimmeride shocks I believe? I'm wanting to upgrade at least to some new shocks, either gaz or protech? What would be my best option, new shocks with original springs? Or complete new units with springs? if so does anyone know what spring rate to go for on the new mark 3 with outboard coilovers? can’t find much info on these models so any help is much appreciated!

So I understand there is very little information on the mark 3s and even less parts for them. I’ve only owned mine 3 months, does anyone have any information on potential front suspension upgrades? It’s the new mark 3 model with outboard coilovers! The coilovers are standard with red springs, I believe they came with the Robin kit originally? And the rears have been upgraded to gaz! Edit - I’ve recently discovered about a tie bar conversion, is this easy to do? Would anyone be selling the parts needed to do this? any help is much appreciated

Hi Im new here, and new to Kit cars. Wanted a Robin Hood for the past 30 years after seeing them at a kit car show in Kempston.. I have just picked up a S3a and I have a load of receipts from the build but no build manual, I know I don't really need one its just a nice to have, does anyone have a PDF of this? There will no doubt be a lot more questions coming, as its a non runner. I think the webber card will need rebuilding and looks like the starter motor has seized.. if anyone has any advise please fire away! Thanks

Ok so looking at threads my 3a chassis having cracks in the weld is a pretty common occurrence, I have just noticed these on both sides my question is it just a case of running a new weld down and keep an eye on it or is there a tried and tested way to strengthen up and prevent further failure?
