Hi Everyone,

I'm very new to kit cars, I have just bought a Robin Hood Barrelback and I'm not sure what the donor car was for the suspension and back axle, would someone be able to help?

Thanks Phil

That is double wishbone, which is pretty high-tech for an RH, no?

Although I'd want that bottom wishbone to be one hell of a lot thicker than that - looks like it's been stretched out 🙂

The "Barrelback" is a bit of a rarity and there doesn't seem to be much info. around for it.

I have found a post stating that the donor for them was either Mk4 or 5 Cortina but how much was Cortina & how much was RH is a good question.

Thanks Guys, I wasn't sure if R/H suggested or dictated what donor car is used for each kit, but I'm finding out that doesn't seem to be the case.

Maybe that's why it's a Q plate, its been built from may different cars! Just a real pain to get spares, if I don't know what car I'm looking for.

I’m sure the top wishbone is a rhe design I’ve seen similar on an early cortina based car. The lower seems to use a cast control arm with an additional front section, it could be triumph not sure if it looks ford. What is the pcd on your front wheels, if its 108 then it’s likely a ford upright, if it’s different then triumph 4” pcd  or 41/4”?

It should be stamped on the back of the wheel if its an alloy. Sierra is 108 PCD.
It will likely have either the Cortina solid back axle, ford cortina mk5 rear axle 3.78 ratio
or the Sierra independent setup.

Hi Bob

Thanks for the photos, I'm sure the rear axle, on my R/H is Cortina and the wheels are from an early Ford Focus, and the front axle set up, is a bit of a mongrel.

Hi,

Having found out that my R/H has a cortina rear axle ( thanks Bob ) and everyone else, I was hoping that someone might be able to identify the front hubs & dusc setup ?

Thanks for looking.

Look under Useful Sites > NW Group > Identification of various…

that shows the front suspension setups to all the Robin Hood models.   Might help.
