Engine Oil Pump Drive Shaft

Hi all

 

The hex drive shaft for the engine oil pump and dissy (2.0 SOHC) Which way does it go? Long end or short end into oil pump.

If I remember right it only works one way and must be fitted before you fit the pump it cannot be fiited from the top.

Thanks for your input Dave, you are correct about that. only being able to fit the shaft from the bottom. It can be fitted either way (long/short)

 

If you can picture the hex drive shaft, there is a speed fastener as a location device, this speed fastener is offset ie not in the centre of the shaft. What is the point for this to be fitted this way? <_<

Its a long time since I did mine but I think if you fit it the wrong way the dizzy will not fit flush therefore my vote goes for short side towards the dizzy.

Folks, sorry this is a bit of an out of focus picture (too much G&T again). This is taken with the engine upside-down on the stand, so the shaft is going in upside-down also. If you look at the washer, the "point of the cone" would point away from the dizzy.

 

Of course, this assumes that all the washers were pushed on from the same end...
