Hey,

As a true amateur when i went to get my donor i checked everything but the engine type.... it is a CVH and not a SOHC...

The immediate thing i can see is that the exaust outlet is on the left hand side and thus my pipes wont conect! Is there anything someone can suggest..from looking at it (for hours) I saw that if I twist the pipe 180 (will need to reweld a bracket) and heat and twist the connection to the engine by90, it seems like it might be OK?

What do you think? Are there any other solutions?

Are there any other probs with having this engine type?

Thanks

Bob

Its not the end of the world - the ehaust on the passenger side at least gives you a chance of hearing the stereo ! ! !

You will have your work cut out to modify the exhaust yourself. Check if the Factory can supply one for CVH, I know they looked into doing a kit for CVH but sales for Pinto 2B went mad so they had to concentrate efforts that way, but they may have an exhaust lying around collecting dust.

Engine mounts are also different, this is not mega serious but will require thought and possibly some cash. The thing to be sure of is that the engine is low enough to get the bonnet on and high enough to not drag the sump on the floor even if it is shortened. I have done a quick search through postings looking for further info for you info but have not found much of help. Try yourself using the 'search' feature at the top right of the screen - your choice of keywords might work better than mine.

I know it will sound a bit bullish, but are you too far down the road to buy another doner, or at least an engine from the scrappy - approx £50 for a 'known runner'. It could work out considerably cheaper and easier in the long run, after all the kit is designed completely around the Pinto. Many different engines have been used but all have required considerable input to make them fit. It depends purely on how much you are willing to do to make it fit. I personally would take '3 off the tee' and find a Pinto 2.0 EFI with a known history for about £60-70 from scrappy.

Drivable donors with short MOT and a bit of Tax can often be found for under £100 which give you the chance to drive the car and fault find before building problems into your kit.

Our local scrappy put a 28 day warranty on engines which he is willing to negotiate when like in our case you may not use the engine for 6 months until 'on the road' stage is approached.

Good Luck whichever route you choose

Hi, my donor was a cvh.

After much messing about, engine in, fouling on chassis, mounts need to go forward slightly, oops no, that means sump fouls etc, then finding that the brake servo would not fit with the inlet manifold on:-

I decided to head to the scrappy and picked up a 2l efi for £75, this included all ancillaries and loom etc.

so it might save you a lot of trouble to pick up a different engine - just be sure to take the mounts and loom as well (and starter motor as its different)

cheers, John

i say an uprated pinto in kitcar magazine (august) for £100. if your thinking of doing bits to the engine anyway, this could be an idea for you.

;) I have fitted a CVH engine to my 2B.

Yes the engine needs to be mounted about 2cm forward so that the inlet manifold does not catch the peddle box mounting cross bar and I have used a crosslink from a Escort markII and mounted the break servo on the other side. Its a lot of hard work. If I can Get a Camera I will post some pictures.

My suggestion is get a Pinto

If you do decide to get a Pinto engine from the scrappy you will also need the engine section of the wiring loom which is different to the CVH and dont forget the black box if you get an EFI

Good Luck
