Steering Scraping On Chassis

Guest AWhite

Recommended Posts

Car is a series 3.

I noticed on driving a bit of a scraping sensation through the steering wheel. Took the pedal box off to notice that the steering shaft (sorry about the terminology), on the triangular section, is rubbing on the chassis on the top of the drivers footwell wearing the metal away on the shaft itself. I found that this is down to the bush in the firewall not doing much at all. It seems really sloppy.

My question is: is the bush knackered? if so where can I get one from reasonably easily? Is this a normal occurrence or is there something wrong with my setup?

Thanks again guys.

The upper stearing bush is a standard ford part and is easely obtainable. Make sure that the mounting plate sits at 90 degrees to the shaft.

It sounds like part of it may have fallen out if it's that loose.
