If it is something as simple as a coil failure I'm surprised breakdown service didn't spot it, or did they just send a recovery truck?

With no spark it must be ignition related so check distributor, rotor arm etc. Easiest thing is if you have alternative bits to swap.

It doesn’t have to be the coil. What ignition system are you using? Is there 12 volts to the coil? if there is try flashing the negative side of the coil to earth and checking if there is a spark at the king lead. If there is then the coil is OK so look elsewhere. But until we know what system your using there’s not much anyone can advise you with

I had a similar problem. The car would run okay then misfire and cut out, switch off the ignition and then she would start again until she won't start again. Towed home and started first turn of the key next morning and never happened again.

I use the ESC set-up (1.6 economy engine) vacum pipe goes to distributor.

I would do as suggested, replace one component at a time.

There is a firm in Lincoln called "Short Cuircut" who used to be on Newark Road but went mobile about two years ago.

Mighy be worth a call.

You could always give Gingerfix an e-mail, his ad says "nothing has beaten him yet"
