That is normally the problem Craig the lifters fill and then the valves stay slightly open hence no compression

will try the 5w30 and see what happens.

also check the low voltage side of the coil pack.

also have had plugs fail under compression .was on a single pot motorbike great spark until put in took a while to find that one

had a little play again today and added a cleaner to the oil got it hot and drained it .

refilled with 5w30 and tried again.

there is a noise i would assiociate with a tappet clearance prob from the cylinder that ant working.

got the engine hot and it wouldnt clear. ]

we changed the coil pack again no3 now and the missfire has gone, running sweet now.

it always makes me wonder how you can get 2 bad items in a row so you disregard the obvious and look at other things.

anyway new coilpack and sorted.

Graham, the earlier zetecs can suffer from 'sticky valves'. I have done a lot of work on this problem. The valves stick in the valve guides causing misfiring. as has been said run on 5w30 only.

but the third coil pack appears to have cured the problem.

my hero (nigel)diagnosed the prob some time ago but i refused to accept cos we had got to the second coil pack by then. fitted the third and prob gone.

runs a treat now!.

very responsive with the bike carbs.

hows the turbo going?
