Efi Pre-pump Filter

I know it's a good idea to fit a pre-pump filter to the EFI engine and I have done this, but how did Ford do it on the Sierra. I do not remember seeing one fitted anywhere. I got rid of my donor long ago so I can't look and see.

There was a very coarse mesh in the bottom on the tank - more of a grid like thing over the outlet. That said many a Sierra pump fails because of sucking in crap from the tank. Fitting a proper filter is the best solution.

I've always understood that GMP for a pumped liquid transfer system was to fit a strainer on the intake and any finer filter on the outlet of the pump.

The theory being that the strainer protects the pump from particulate contamination and the liquid is then pushed through the finer filter prior to delivery.

On my carb set up ( which has a fairly puny pump) there is a fairly fine nylon strainer mesh ( ~ 80 mesh) on the end of the pick up pipe in the tank.

Like I mentioned before, the fuel injection specialist who I went to said its not right to fit a paper filter prior to the pump only a gauze mesh type! <_<

Not to fit ANY paper filter, or not to fit a narrow bore one? Europa and others sell pre-injection pump filters with 15mm inlet and outlets connections specifically designed to go between the tank and the pump.

Anyhow, you'll not have much room for a filter will you ... what with the battery being in the way

Europa and others do sell filters as you say but have you seen the rip off prices. I'm doing the same as you, using a couple of paper filters. Replace them every 10000 miles and I should get about 100000 miles before I match the price of one of theirs!!
