Keeping Rust Off Chrome?

I have recently got a chrome pinto cam cover. It was a very mucky when I got it and also had some blue overspray and small

rust spots. All these came off with a bit of carb cleaner and tons of buffing but the rust is back.

Is there a product that would keep this at bay without turning the spots black or dulling the chrome?

The method I was taught was to rub any chromed item that had rust spots with silver paper, but that was when dinosaurs roamed the earth so there is probably a more sophisticated product today!

Thats just jogged my memory to an episode of Mythbusters, they used tin foil and coka cola on an old American classic chrome bumper

and it seemed to come up great.

Nothing is going to stop it from rusting now, the only thing is to keep cleaning it with autosol or similar to keep it at bay.

but the rust will keep creeping through.

 

To stop the rust you would need to get it re-chromed at a specialist.
