Swirl Pot

Ill keep this short as i fear it may have covered before but not to sure.

(i know it has with fuel but not sure if water is a different kettle of fish?)

I have a header tank fitted to my system to catch any excess water during overheating etc.

I understand a swirl pot in your water system to do the job of taking out the escess air you may have - does this mean it is therefore like a self bleeding system?

How do the internals of the swirl pot work?

Does it matter what it is made of?

Are they easy to make/improvise and if so has anyone got any instructions.

Where is the best place to fit - top most part of system?

Anything else anyone would like to add? ;)

Many thanks.

Stu :D

The header section of the radiator acts as an auto bleed system. Connect the overflow pipe to the bottom of a (un-pressurised) container of coolant and viola. Any air is pushed out of the overflow into the bottle when the coolant expands, and when it all cools down again water gets sucked back in. Dead simple.
