Just wondering if anyone can confirm for sure what the connections are/required for the standard sierra fuel guage?

I am goin to re-use the orignal one as i would like it to be accurate and dont fancy fiddling any further. I seem to remember looking at it there are two or three pins on the back.

what wires will i be looking for in the mutli plug?

Cheers

First question - What's "standard" on a Sierra

On mine ('89 2.0 GL carb) there were two connections to the sender

Brown/Black to resistance pad wiper (Large pin)

Brown to Earth (Small pin)

At other end (Multi-plug)

Brown/Black to pin #7 ( when viewed from rear & numbering Right to Left)

I believe that higher spec models may have third connection which feeds low fuel warning light

I am not convinced its very accurate anyway unless you are using the original sierra tank, I have got the RH stainless tank for the 2b and it reads empty when there is still about half a tank left. To make it more accurate you have to make sure that the float travels the full range of the tank and that the centre of rotation for the pot is halfway up the tank, or else you don't get a linear response from the gauge

I'd agree with that

I extended and reshaped the float arm

I also extended the pipe up pipe by 4cm so that it reached the bottom of the tank

That's with a Sierra carburettor sender unit.
